Hi:

I have a 7100 b that I just brought back into service. I now want to add Power Steering. I have no idea how old the tractor is but it runs without any apparent problems in the hydraulics or drive train. The only issue is there seems to be a slow battery drain (maybe the regulator?).

I have found a few threads on power steering conversions for this tractor but without any reference to a basic explanation of what is needed. Everyone seems to know exactly what they are talking about. The fact is . . . I do not.

Does anyone have a way of educating me as to what I would need to consider? Perhaps a link to a website that explains the basics of what is required to understand the hydraulic flow involved?

The reason I ask is in browsing Surplus Center's catalog (Surplus Center - Hydraulics, Engines, Electrical and More) I came across sections on steering valves, priority valves & flow dividers, cylinders etc. These components are reasonably priced. However how do you go about figuring what you'd need?

I'd appreciate any help.

I can easily post pix of the tractor as well as create a plan/design from suggestions/guidance for this project if it'd help advance my grasp of what I'd need for the actual instal.

thanks,

Jon

For the battery drain maybe a quick fix is to add one of those cutoff switches like this: Heavy Duty Battery Cutoff Switch Quick easy fix. As for the power steering, check out the link in my signature. You can also search via my screen name and you'll see a few power steering add ons that I have posted to. Some ingenious setups. I plan on changing my setup to have a small car pump running off the belt, there's one of those in here somewhere too. Good luck.

Great idea!!. I will get to what's going on with the electrical at some point for sure.

Thanks for the clue on getting PS for the 7100. I'll check it out.

I was thinking I'd post some photos. Yesterday I degreased the block and engine compartment. Today I'm gonna get it up to the power washer and get the body clean. I'd like to post pix of the wiring so I think I'll start there.

Thanks again

Jon
