Ford 4610
I have a Ford 4610 deisel with a power steering leak at the steering column. I am going to start by replacing the upper seal. The manual talks about using a gear puller to take the steering column off. From the diagram, it looks like I will need a puller with pretty long arms. Not sure how to do this. Does anyone have experience replacing steering column seals? Any help is appreciated.

Have you replaced the filter in the pump housing? My 4610 did that and I replaced the filter and the problem went away.

The easiest way too remove the steering wheel is to soak the nut for a few days in Kroil/PB Blaster or whatever works your magic for such a stuck bolt.
Then after loosening the nut up to the top of the threads, while standing on the floorboards pulling up on the wheel have someone tapping the nut/column with a hammer and it will pop loose. I've never had luck with a gear puller but always had success with the method mentioned.

Good luck on sealing that, I will advise before pulling stuff apart and replacing seals check the pressure coming out of the pump to see if it is too high.

I attempted to do the seal on a 4600 having never approached such. Couple of things, puller will tear up your wheel so try as Birdhunter stated. Second the gearbox is full of ball bearings and you have to be very careful in getting it apart and putting it back together. I mislocated one of the balls and as a result the column didn't go back together and fully seat....I didn't know why at the time. I damaged the gearbox in the process and had to get a new one......dealer had access to one and the cost was $2k.......hard lesson learned. Don't force anything...if it doesn't want to cooperate, find out why!!!!!
