SoundGuy,

What about adding power steering to a NH TC18? Do you think it is possible?

Just about anything is possible. Throw a team of engineers on it.. have a machine shop standing by, and a metal supplier and hyd specialist and supplier on call,.. a couple line techs to bolt it up.. and I imagine you could add power steering to a push lawnmower.. just depends on how fast your wallet is?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not owning a tc18.. I had always guessed that they were already power steering. Seems like the small 4wd one I looked at at the nh deal had been.. but then that was back in 99' so the memory is a bit foggy.

For that matter.. as small as a tc18 is... does it need power steering?

A quick review of posts here shows that many tc18 have PS.. so perhaps it is an option? for fel use?

Yeah it was an option that the original owner did not get. It does get to be alot of work on my arms if doing alot of loader work, and if the front wheels catch something like a rut, I have to let go of the wheel. I think it could break my hand very easily if I caught the wheel the wrong way. It'll spin around very quickly with alot of force.

I had a Ford 1600, see attached pic, that I used primarily as a mowing tractor, so I can appreciate one wanting to add power steering. It was a great little machine and would run all day on a sip of diesel, but man you had to really muscle it in tight corners. If such a conversion is available it sure would be good to know, with used tractor prices going up it might be worth doing.

Your this Ford 1600 isn't a Japan tractor with 2-cyl. engine made by Shibaura? I have never seen a power steering kit for them. If available anywhere, it will be very expensive because of numbers of these tractors were not many and no power steering kit Mfg will want to manufacture such kits for few tractors. Your only chance is to find a dealer or two who had sold these tractors late 1970s. They may provide the info.

If it was a factory option, than the parts should be available at the dealer. probably not cheap...but how bad do you want it?

tc18ny, I would consider looking else ware for the cylinder of you do this... I bent myn on a bever stump on my TC21D and a factory cylinder was $485. My machine being less than a yr old at the time. I bought the factory part, today I doubt I'd do that... if I could find the same part other wares....
