power take off

I have a gravely 810 when i ingaged the power take off the mower blades turned slowley iwas told to ajust the lever rod to1 inch now the blades turn at the right speed but i have to hold the lever when ilet go the blades slowely stop turning could someone help thank you

Adjusting the PTO clutch is a bit of a tricky job on the 800/8000 series. Two turns too much on the clevis is enough to have it misadjusted. What you want is a little free play when the clutch is fully engaged. From your description, you have too much free play now. You had too little before. Hope this helps.
