Very informative. I still have my dads 60 year old Black & Decker 8-1/4 inch circular saw. It still runs and cuts very well. I dont use it on the job of course. Its in my tool museum with many of his tools he used to support me and my brothers & sisters.
Pictured below, Dads old Black & Decker 8-1/4 inch and my Milwaukee 8-1/4 inch worm drive saw.

It's kind of interesting (and sad) how some of the tool companies and brands have just become marketing names now. I have my Dad's old metal chop saw -- that was from Black & Decker's "professional" line, I guess back before they got bought up and started playing games with brand names and market segments. It cut thousands of bundles of steel studs and structural steel in his business and is still going strong for me. Now most B&D tools are junk and they don't make anything remotely professional grade.

Funny thing, when was growing up, Stanley was a local Connecticut company and their HQ was not far from where we lived. I knew them mostly for their door hardware and hand tools. My dad knew some of their engineers, including the old timers that worked on the first retractable tape measure that we all take for granted today. Now they are part of the big Stanley Black & Decker empire that owns all those other brands. Who knew!

Some years back, Stanley bought National Hardware and now I see a lot of their stuff is stamped with both logos.

The amount of consolidation in tools and hardware is amazing but I suppose it's the result of global competition.
