My wife has an older G4 Powerbook (aluminum cover) that does not pick up our wifi signal strongly because the cover blocks/impedes the signal..

I was looking on ebay and did a search for 'wifi usb antenna' and found what looks like a few external antennas that will work on the Mac.. One is called a 'high gain WLAN USB adapter with antenna' - its a usb device that you can add an external antenna to.

Im a little confused though 1) does this replace the aircard in the computer or does it just help boost the signal strength

any other suggestions on how to boost the signal strength? I already added a bigger antenna to the router, but the computer still doesnt get a very strong signal

I use this type of antenna on my PC and has much better range than the built in Wi-FI. It replaces the built-in Wi-Fi. I turn off operation of the built in Wi-Fi when using it.
