Massey Ferguson 1648 w/ CB20 and Loader
Looking to add a hydraulic brush cutter (standard flow) to the front of my loader on an MF 1648. Max flow is 16gpm on the tractor. Looking to use power beyond to hit a motor control valve and use that to power the brush cutter. Seems simple enough. What am I missing? Has anyone tried this? Results? The bush hog on the back just can't do what I need it to. Putting a skid steer style on the loader would be amazing. This is a pretty heavy duty tractor and I've been impressed with everything else I've hooked up to it. Just haven't tried a hydraulic motor off it yet.
Thanks All.

My only concern would be if you plan on using it all day. Skid loaders have a hydraulic cooler biggern than their radiators normally....the ones on tractors are tiny in comparison. My only concern would be cooking fluid

TractorData lists 11.6 GPM on the main pump of your tractor and 4.9 or 6 gpm (depends if you have PowerShuttle or not) for the steering. While both pumps share the same fluid and sump, they are two separate circuits.

The reason you don't see it being done that much it's because it doesn't work that well. Every time you adjust the loader position, the mower would lose power and slow down or stop because the flow was then redirected to move the loader.

There are attachments just like you're saying but they do run a independent PTO pump, reservoir and cooler on the 3pt just for the mower. Those work well enough for what it is.

This sounds like an expensive prospect as the PTO driven pump and cooler units are more than the cost of a decent skit steer brush cutter...
Not ideal. Any other ideas? renting a forestry mulcher is in the thousands and I'll need to be able to bushhog it or use a flail mower over it consistently or it will all just grow back...

What are you needing one to do that a rear cutter wont? Maybe that will help us understand why you are dead-set on a front mount.
