Still moving closer to purchasing a M95x or M9540. Having a little trouble convincing the boss we need a new machine. She uses it very little so she does not have to fight the Africanized bees, allergies etc. My question, the 9540 is gear drve and the 95x is powershift and a more robust tractor. The 95x is also $8,000.00 more expensive. Do yall think this is reasonable for general purpose ranch work? Or stay with standard shift?

I am a somewhat "bells/whistles" guy, but 8k for more limited performance would be hard for me to justify. However, if your wife refuses to use the one for less, that maybe a problem in the future too?

There is also an M95 swing shift that falls between the 95X powershift and M9540. You many find that meets your need for a lower price, and a bigger tractor.

Stay with standard shift 9540 if possible. Powershift on a big tractor is for urgent, time critical field work. If you need Powershift, you'll know it. There will be some looming productivity issues. If you're not sure, you don't need it.

Besides being less expensive, straight gear will be simpler, easier to fix and with less to go wrong.
