Asking owners of Ym3810D tractors of noises the powershift transmission is supposed to make.Mine makes a grinding or growling noise , the lower the gear ,the more noise. Makes a whining noise in neutral with engine running, when clutch is released. Most disturbing noise is pop or snap that happens when tractor is backed up and clutch is depressed to stop motion. All these noises seem to come from right side of rear end or transmission under drivers seat. The right rear wheel also seems to bind at certain point in rotation if tractor is in neutral and coasting slowly downhill. This same right rear wheel had a squeak in rotation when delivered, but now I don't hear squeak anymore.I am in touch with dealer and importer to try to solve problem before warranty expires, but was wanting to hear from actual owners of tractors with ps transmissions to hear what sounds their tractors make. Any advise or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Ray Dove

Ray, don't know if the design is the same as on my tractor but the basic design has a constant mesh trans with a clutch for each gear (seems to replace the syncro one thinks of on an auto trans). Don't know how the noises you are hearing is due to the powershift aspect of the trans. My comments are based on looking at the trans from the parts manual for my model. Could be totally different on your model.

Thanks for reply, I know our tractors are not same model, but do you have any of the noises I described in my post audible on your tractor. I've been told my noises are normal for ps transmissions, but I'm still uneasy. Ray

No advice or suggestions, but I hear none of the noises you describe from my 2220 powershift transmission.

My 3110D makes what I call a whining noise in gear, its worse in some gears than others but I don't remember if it is worse up or down. I'll have to go out there and get on it to see. It does make a noise if the gear selector is in gear and the powershift is in neutral with the clutch out. There was enough noise for me to suspect a bearing or something and I asked the dealer. He said they had torn one down for that same reason and could find nothing wrong, that they were just kind of noisy. Now Kenmac has me wondering. As far as the popping sound from the rear end, mine has never done anything like that. From your description I would suspect something with the brake. I have never compared parts list with the 3110 and 3810, but I think they are close. They both have a 3T84 engine and the 3810 is turbo-charged...right?

My PS makes hardly any noise except when going in 3rd range. Then it is a whining noise. Sitting in Neutral absolutely none. The noises that you describe would make me VERY concerned and I do not think that I would drive it at all until I located the source. It sounds to me like it is aft of the trans and more in the finals or even in a reduction (sun and planetary gears??). Drain the oil and look for metal pieces. If there is something wrong in there, it will not heal itself and it will destroy hard to find pieces.

Only noise I hear is at the instant of the shift and the characteristics of the noise varies with load on the trans. As soon as the shift is completed, just normal mech trans sounds. Nothing I'd call unusual.

Thanks to all for the replys. I am in touch now with dealer and his supplier and hopefully we can get the issue resolved. Thanks, Ray Dove
