What are others getting for gas mileage on their 6.0 PSD? What additives are you guys adding. It seems since the USLD change I'm getting only 16.9 gpm
I'm not sure what ratio (gear) I have. But the mileage seems to have gone down. It has only around 25k miles on it. Clogged injector maybe?

2005 F250 6.0 Diesel w/automatic trans.....15-18 mpg....I noticed a drop with the ULSD also. I don't add anything to the fuel, it's already expensive enough...

You will get about 2% less fuel economy with ULSD. Top that with the fact that many fuel distributors cut their fuel with kerosene in the winter to make winter blend diesel fuel. The winter blend also usually decreases fuel economy on top of the ULSD 2% decrease.

'04 Excursion, 16,000 miles, averaging 17.5 at 70 mph.
'05 F-350 SRW, 8,500 miles, averaging 15, mixed in town, highway and some towing.

Neither as good at the 7.3's they replaced. Haven't really noticed a difference with ULSD, but do notice a difference from November to March when the fuel is winterized.

2 degrees this morning, sure glad they winterize it.

'05 F-350 DWR with 4.10 rear-end. Averaging around 13.9 if I keep the rpms down. It doesn't change when towing the small trailer. Drops to about 13.2 when we pull the 7-horse trailer.

'04 F350, 4WD, dually, flatbed dump, 6.0L, auto, 4.10 axle usually 10mpg- loaded and trailer (10K) or empty, once got 14 mpg empty on the highway. It has a clogged (coked) egr valve (cleaned once by a dealer last fall - cleaned again in January by me). Goes in tomorrow to another dealer to get worked (cleaned out/replaced) has 35,800 miles on it. I didn't understand the coking thing until I talked to the mechanic at the dealership and he gave me two bottles of the Ford additive they recommend, it lasted for 5 tank fills. Been running the PowerServ (white bottle) from Wal-Mart or TSC for the last few, haven't noticed a difference +/- in fuel consumption

Deereguy, thanks for the link to another great site. My friends got a 7.3 and he's always bragging about what great mpg he gets. But after I pulled away from him with a 12k trailer in tow I haven't heard much out of him. Over all it's decent mpg I wasn't getting much better than 12-14 with my old gasser.

Thanks

I have been running ULSD for a few months now and I don't really notice the MPG for I never get through a tank without pulling my tractor which blows MPG out of the water. What I do notice is lack in power. Does this sound right. If diesels like fuel to make more power and better MPG then if MPG goes down that's a sign. Correct me if I'm wrong!!!

From what I hear, the difference in mileage between the 6.0L and the older 7.3L is not that great. Average numbers I hear are 13-16 with the 6.0L in combo driving, 12-14 pulling and up to 18 or so in strictly highway driving. Some do better, some worse. The 7.3L on average seems around the same, perhaps 1/2 MPG better on the highway but with much more variability. My highly modified 7.3L does a fair amount better and has LOTS of power. From those I have seen, the 7.3L seems to respond better to modifications, both from a performance and fuel mileage standpoint. My friend, the local JD dealer has a 6.0L that he drives daily. 12 mpg is his in town average, but we live in the mountains and this time of year it is pretty cold here, which hurts mileage. I know that you are asking for information's sake, but basically most of the diesels in trucks get about the same mileage. Dodge Cummins engines perhaps a little better, but one would seemingly have to drive about five million miles to notice a major savings on fuel. I know folks well who have about every major brand, and they all tout numbers that are about the same, except those that say their one ton duallies are getting 35 mpg's. We are know those people. I would feel pretty confident in the number ranges above, but of course, some do a little better based on driving habits and engine/drivetrain variability.
