Looking for a rear discharge finish mower to use behind a JD 2520. Need something reasonably sturdy as this will be used to cut about 15 acres of field. I want something maneuverable to use in tighter locations and was thinking a 60 or 72" would be ideal (72" may be too heavy). Local JD dealer gave a price of $2500 for a Woods PRD 6000 with chains and antiscalp front roller. Seems like a lot of $$. Anyone purchase either of these mowers lately?

We have one of the best "First Choice" 6 ft mowers on the market with features out the Yazoo for $1495 with anti-scalp roller. Compare features to anybody you want. Ken Sweet

You should look at the 59 inch Caroni flail mower from www. agrisupply.com
as they have an internet special price with freight included to your door

I have a number of postings regarding flailmowers and there is 92-3 page thread titled lets talk flail mowers" here too.

And speaking as a flail mower owner with no financial interests involved I will tell you a flail mower is less trouble, less work, safer to own and operate, and costs less to buy from agrisupply and the Caroni line has long history of building mowers and especially flailmowers.

The flail mower has a full width cut where each knife blade has a cutttling edge and the knives overlap while cutting versus a rotary mower which has a limited amount of cuting edge on each blade.

Its no secret that I hate rotary mowers but the flail mower cuts in a safer manner where it cuts and lifts and recuts the grass or brush into fine pieces versus the rotary mower tearing grass and brush.

The other nasty thing about rotary mowers is they will create missiles out of any object they hit and are capable of throwing them hundreds of feet.

A flail mower with four rows of knives cuts with what is described as the verticutting method where the knife blade slices the grass or brush and lifts it over the flail mower rotor and throws it back down on the ground in small pieces to decay and compost

The TLFSC 1500 is a fifty nine inch flail mower is $1789.95 frieght included to your door buying it using the agrisupply home page to order through their web page when buying it or 1549.95 purchased in store

It has four rows of knive blades with 88 blades total and is built for a 20 to 40 horse power tractor and operates at 540 rpm and the caroni home page says it is available for front mounting.

All 88 blades are cutting at all times following the blade in front of it. the 88 mower knives have a greater cutting edge length in total than a brush mower or rotary mowers limited number of blades.

If you have a mid PTO you should have no issues ordering one for front mounting from agrisupply- it might take a bit longer but it would be worth the wait.

The full width roller allows full contact of the mower to the ground and is also is the means of mower height adjustment.

Caroni S.p.a. - Costruzioni meccaniche

my thoughts anyway

Our Finish Mowers have a angled dovetail on the back that deflects any discharge down and away from bystanders. We also stock the top of the line Flail mowers (Sicma) Phoenix. Ken Sweet
