Preparing new area for mowing

I've about 1 - 1/2 acre area I'd like to add to my mowing. I've taken the hog over it, but did cut down a zillion small saplings in the 1 1/2" range.

I have a bush hog, box blade with rippers, and tootbar and middlebuster.

What do you guys recommend I do to get the sapling stumps up so I don't hit them with the mower blade..

Maybe I should ride the bush hog on the ground and just raise the mower blade up?

I'm not looking for manacured lawn, just want to start mowing instead of hogging..

Much depends on your timeframe and how much effort you want to exert. The slow and easy way is to continue to use rough-cut mower regularly for another year - or until all of the little stumps are gone. If land is adequately level, you can then go from rough-cut to finer cut and be done.

Sapling stumps are similar to a weed in the garden. The only sure way to dispose is to pull them.

Ok, I get it. Plow up with rippers or hog and wait..

I may hog and wait.. Not good at waiting..
