Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Prepping 3pt snowblower for winter

Hi All

Need to ready my 3pt snowblower for winter and I am planning to complete some paint touch-up, check the gear box oil, and grease the auger and bearings.

Wondering if I should grease the pto shaft? What does everyone else do to get their equipment ready for winter? Is there one grease that outperforms others?

Thanks. I have learned so much from all the advice, tips and information on the site. The temperature is dropping quickly and I know winter is coming.

You should grease the zerks in the yokes and a light film of grease on the inner shaft (of the collapsible section). It's probably better if you separate those sections completely, but I just pull them apart (about full extension) and smear grease on the inner section. I figure the collapsing and extension during operation should result in complete coverage.
I use standard EP grease...same stuff I use in the loader and tractor zerks.

I don't remove the PTO from the implement...actually easier to extend the PTO drive shaft with it connected to an implement.

I pull my chute off once a year [ do my PM'n in the spring ] and re-coat the 'bearing' surfaces with lithium grease. I just use the white lithium, but I have seen blue lithium that is supposed to be low temp. You can clean and paint these surfaces, but as long as there is a coating of grease it will not rust. The reason I PM in the spring, is that I like to get all the metal coated back up with a layer of Rustoleum before storage.

Thanks Roy and Jerry. I would probably found out the hard way to not remove the shaft from the implement. I agree, I should have PM'd in the spring, when it was warmer and dryer, but why do today when you can put off till tomorrow. A motto, I try not to live by, but life sometimes gets in the way.
