Prepping my 425 for it\'s first use?

This may sound like a dumb question but...

I just got my 425 and will be using it right away. Are there some recommended things to do to it right away before using it the first time?

All I have done with it thus far is drive it on and off the trailer and moved some of the attachments?

Didn't I read something on here about metal shavings? Anything else, wax, kisses hugs?

Re: Prepping my 425 for it\'s first use?

Congratulations,
Just go outside, introduce yourself, and apologize to your machine for any newbie misteaks /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif that you may be making during the early courtship period. These units are not only beefy, but very tolerant and forgiving. Like flying "by the seat of your pants," be mindful of where you are (slopes, etc), the load you are carrying and potholes/ditches that you may encounter. As has been preached here many times, "keep the load as low as you can." As load height goes up, so does risk of a "mal-event."

The quick attach is great, but as has been discussed here, don't be frustrated at the get-go. It takes a bit of a learning curve to develop the finesse to slide the pieces smoothly together. Don't I know it !!

As far as metal shaving are concerned, they should be trapped by the hydraulic and engine oil filters. Just remember to do your oil/filter service as prescribed. Dipping a magnet into your hydraulic tank is at best an inefficient way to try to "find" stuff. If one is woried enough about that potential, I would recommend popping the cover plate, draining the hydraulic oil and thoroughly VISUALLY inspecting the tank. Me thinks that is "over the top" in terms of fret and worry. We need to give the folks at Tazewell some credit for putting our machines together.

Go out and have fun....er, I mean, go out and get to work...

Thanks Doc:

I did notice that the quick attach got a little getting used to but you're right, with practice, it is getting better. I have the hardest time with the forks, getting them off. The buckets are all pretty easty.

I'll go out and give it a hug.

I'm heading out to TSC in a little bit.

Couple of things I am picking up.

Greese and gun, (my old one is broken)
Greese
Spray lube
Wheel knob
Some other "stuff"

first thing id say is adjust the ;ap belt properly for you and lose all the 4 extra feet they give you or atleast put a zip tie on it , i learned that through error it got under the tire with me straped in scared me but good . and put in your gas prior to starting it up not sure of where the gas tank is now but mine is in the hood and check all your oil prior to every start up and enjoy your new best friends company and try not to swallow to many bugs as the smile youll have invites flying insects

Check your tire pressure. Mine came with less than recommended for shipping. I run my 425 at 10 PSI all around.

Re: Prepping my 425 for it\'s first use?

On the seat belt, I rolled it up and wrapped it with tie wraps to keep it out from under the tire.

Wiggle Mode - I got my 422 stuck many times before I realized that all you had to do was steer back and forth as you applied power to the wheels. This helps in mud and on steep slopes.

I grease and lube every 5 hours. I do this so that I don't have to remeber when the last 8 hour lube occured. You just grease when the last digit is 5 or 0. Also if I forget and lube late, I have not violated the 8 hour recommendation.

Good luck and have safe fun.

Yes that smiling thing is a big problem, it also make your cheeks sore. My wife was laughing at me cause I was smiling so much.

lol , my 20 year old son was apparently watching me cut the grass on mine this summer from the kitchen and he came up with some song about how happy i am with my tractor as all he sees is smile ear to ear , funny thing is he used to abuse the heck out of my lawn tractor , running it wide open calling himself cutting grass running over footballs and basketballs for kicks . i actually saw this happen by the way and he hasnt had the fortune of running the green beast yet . he asked i told him he could son as he pulled the key for it out of my cold very dead fingers lol /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Prepping my 425 for it\'s first use?

Check ALL fluids! My battery fluid level was very low!

Use dino oil for 100 hours of break in, then Amsoil to make it last!

Oil air filter.

Buy a LARGE funnel for refueling.

Tire pressure can be much softer in rear. Best all around performance and ride with 7# Rear and 11# Front. Check often, and Slime if needed.
