When I bought my tractor & backhoe in January of 08 I was never happy with the way the hoe performed. I called the dealer and explained what is was doing ( or wasnt doing) and he said it probably just needed to set it up a little ( pressure valve on hoe) That he would drop by when he was in the area and set it up for me.

Well time went on and I hardly ever used it until a couple of weeks ago I was trying to dig a small tree out so I called him and told him that it wasnt working right and he told me that I had waited to long to call him back that it was out of warranty now and I would have to set it up myself.

But he was nice enough to say hey but just set it up a little at a time until it feels the way you want. We had a few words and I just said what the heck and hung up.

My question is has any of you set your hoe up any. If so I assume you screww the valve in some to adjust to higher pressure. No I am not talking about the valve below the tractor seat this is the valve beside the controls on the hoe.

Any help appreciated

Changing the pressure relief setting without a pressure gage is very risky. I would pick up a HP gage and "T" and check it properly. I have mine set at 2200psi.
Hydraulic pressure is nothing to guess about, you could easily do serious damage and/or get injured. Dead heading a pump is not a good thing, something WILL break.

Does your backhoe not use the same pressure that the tractor produces? Have you checked for flow restrictions in the circuit? You say that the valve has it's own relief valve, is it a screw adjust, or does it use shims? Are the QD's working correctly, and not causing a restriction? If you know the the GPM's, and pressure, and cylinder size, and rod size, then you can compute the extend and retractions times. You have to have a pressure gage to be messing around with the hydraulics.

I only just noticed this thread and it is nearly a month old.
There is SOME detail in the Amerequip hoe manual, I have the 8600 (8ft 6in).
I vaguely recall a mention somewhere that the hoe gets the lessor of it's relief pressure or the tractor's - or maybe it is the loader that gets that ?
Point is, you can look that up in the hoe owner's manual, if you don't have one I can look it up and scan a page or two for you.
I think Amerequip will send you a manual for FREE if you call them and say you never got one.
