Pressure Washer,, Belt Drive,,, or,,, Direct Drive ?

So, which type pressure washer is better?
A direct drive?
or
A belt drive?

The reason I ask, is that I have both,, but, the belt drive does not produce pressure,, it needs something.
I have not diagnosed it ,, yet,,

Northern Tool charges more for a belt drive,, does that make it better?

A little background, both machines have Honda engines
10HP on the belt drive,, and 11HP on the direct drive.

The belt drive 10HP machine is MUCH older, but, both engines run perfectly.

I seldom need two machines,, but, on occasion, it would be nice to have both.

So, should I try to repair the belt drive as it may be a better machine?
OR
Should I just store the belt drive (or sell it) ?

ALSO,, do you have any hints on how to diagnose a pressure washer problem?

Belt drive is always superior to just about any equipment. When you look at higher end models you never see a direct drive. :drink:

I have 3 washers, I always use the belt drive 4000 psi, the other 2 are dust collectors...

I was wrong about the horsepower of the two washers that I have,,

The belt drive is 11 HP,,,
The direct drive is 13 HP,,,

I guess I have to crank up the belt drive on the next warm day, and see if there is something obvious that can be fixed,,,

With pressure washers it all depends on what the cleaning power is.

PSI X GPM= Cleaning Power

The size of the engine is of some importance but the other variance would be in the size and type of pump.

It's a common mistake to make.

Retailers, Big Box Stores, always tout the motor name as the name of the washer.
