Pretty sorry excuse for a great woman

If there was true justice in this mater, "Hanoi Jane" would be left to rot under the same conditions the American POW's were subjected to at the "Hanoi Hilton" and the other camps in Viet Nam

Even putting aside the Hanoi Jane disgrace, what in the heck did this woman ever do anyway to be considered great? She was a lousy actress and her workout tapes were a joke. What else has she done?

CowBoyDoc,

I'm not sure how much of the note is true but I do know the following...

When I was in school in the 80's I had a History professor who was
excellent. One of the three or four prof's I had who where actually
worth a cent. I took 30-40 hours worth of classes with this guy even
though I did not need them to graduate. One of the great things about
Dr. Sullivan was that he would bring in either recordings of interviews
he had conducted for his research or most often the actual person.

The one recording I remember was of the only survivor from the Devestator
torpedo plane squadron that was destroyed during the Battle of Midway.
This guy was shot down, straffed by Zeros, shot at by ships, watched the
destruction of the Japanese carriers and SOMEHOW was found and rescued
by our Navy. The man is beyond lucky. It was awesome to hear him even
on a recording.

Another memorable man was an Admiral that worked with the US nuke
program in the 40's and was popping off the big bombs in Pacific after WWII.

Another interesting guy was a serving or just retired USMC General. He
was a pilot in Vietnam where he was shot down and spent five years as a
"guest" of the commies. His "discussions" with his hosts where not pleasent.
"Discussions" was his phrase for the torture he recieved at their hands. As
part of his talk to the class he said he knew for certain that Hanoi Jane was
directly responsible for the torture death of three POWs. His fervent wish
was to be able to have Jane in a room for a few hours so he could have a
"discussion" with her. This was well before the Internet so he certainly
was not part of a hoax. He was there and certainly in a position to know
what happened so I'll take his word.

He is a pretty lucky guy as well. He was the CO of a unit that was deployed
overseas. On the way across the Atlantic he task group was sent to Granada
to particpate in the invasion. As a result his unit did not relieve its sister
unit in Beruit. Otherwise HIS unit would have been the one that got hit
by the suicide truck bomb.....

Later...

Dan,
The survivor of Torpedo 8 was named Ensign George Gay. I've read many books on Midway and seen documentaries about him. Quite a remarkable story and man.

Don't know if you caught it tonight, Richard, I caught it by accident when we were visiting my mother-in-law. On Fox News on the O'Reilly Factor .. they had (don't remember his name) the author of a book about Hanoi Jane and how she should have been tried for treason ... on one side, and defending her on the other side, good ole ex-hubby and Chicago Seven alumnus Tom Hayden.
Hayden tried hard to defend her but, inho, get getting his legs cut out from under him. We were pretty well convinced (not that I wasn't already) that she was worse than Walker ... the poor delusional and now "afraid-to-leave-Afganistan" fledgling terrorist.
Lots of pictures of Hanoi Jane enjoying her time in North Viet Nam ... and the infamous "look at the big cannon between my legs" picture on the book cover.
I still have trouble fathoming why she wasn't tried (and executed) for treason ... we, in Canada, had no doubt of her guilt ... the media there wasn't quite as whitewashing as the American media was ...

If we want to have an effect on this poor judgement we need to know who is honoring Traitor Jane.

Letters and phone calls to editors sometimes work.

Letters and phone calls to advertisers do work if sufficient volumn is generated.

You've got our attention.

Now help us I.D. a target!

That's another thing about the internet - old legends keep reappearing. Quoting from the Urban Legends site mentioned above:

her inclusion in ABC's 30 April 1999 "A Celebration: 100 Years of Great Women" rightly angered many who failed to see what was so "great" about this woman
