Mith the landfill I run is required to bury rubbish in 4 to 5 foot lifts and we usually have 2 seperate lifts going for different type debris from the plant we cover for. We had our EPA lady come out for her inspection and all that. I stopped the machine to tell her where dad was and chat a minute. The scraper I was on is a John Deere762 elevating scraper with the big self loading chains. They rarely have brakes or use them when I saw the inspector I had just dumped the load of dirt and had pulled the ejector lever back to the return mode. I set the bowl down on the ground and got off to talk. I left it running and forgot about the ejector plate on the botom of the bowl having to slide back forward to the dig mode. As i was talking the inspecto asked who was on the scraper i looked up and the ejector had bottomed back out and had given it enoug momentum to roll it backwards with the cutting edge in the sand. down the ramp and all. Inspector lady looked at me and said are you gonna stp it. I told her it would stop when it hit bottom or te wall. It rolled another50 feet and stopped in some soft rubbish against the sidewall to the fill.

Ive seen OSHA let worse by lol. I got written up once on a jo the excavator I was operating was a PC300LC Komatsu with a handrail up one side and not the other. OSHA states if your over sixfeet int the air you must have a handrail or a tie off and lanyard. I was ontop with the hood open checking the oil and a middle aged OSHA man with a young female OSHA recruit pulled up and got out the clipboards and pens. He was icving me the wrtite up talk and how he was gonna fine my Bosses and all that because i didnt have a full hand rail and no lanyard. Well i let him know in unrepeatable words that that was the dumbest thing there as most of our machines were 300's and ove six feet tall and I was the onley one with the harrassment. Then when he left he let the lady driveshe threw it in reverse and was looking at her clipboard and backed intor a 222 Manitowoc crane bright red 100 ton crane though the perimiter safety tape lol. Out of all the days not to have my camera lol.
