I bought 42" WR Long forks for my 460 loader for $900 through the local JD dealer. He likes them better than the JD forks since they have a higher back brace. I've used them a lot. They would be better if they could lock in place at the bottom but I may modify them later. Check around and you may find them cheaper.

cwave,

Does your loader have a quick attach that is compatible with bobcat attachments?
I have a set of forks for my new holland that fit the quick attach on my 32LA. The are designed for a bobcat and have a frame just like a fork lift that allows the distance between the forks to be easily adjusted. Pretty heavy duty design.
The max load I have lifted with this setup is about 2800 lbs, no problem. Rated to 4500 lbs. The back end of your tractor will get very light before you break these forks.
Made by AMH, cost was $600.

cwave,

I paid $950 for my JD forks that go onto the 460 FEL. These are I believe the same ones that go on the 430. See attached picture of the forks. I'm extremely happy with them.

I paid $950 for a set of forks for a 460 loader so your quote is right in the ball park. The thing that I like about the JD fork attachment is that it uses the quick attach feature of the loader and you can switch between the bucket and forks by just removing two pins and doing the rest from the tractor seat.

If I didn't know better, I'd think Deere had their dealers involved in price fixing. Odd that no one varies from that price.

Virtually all companies set a MSRP - Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price for their products. Some retailers will offer discounts off this price, while many will sell at the MSRP. It appears than many JD dealers are sticking to the MSRP. This is very different than "price fixing", unless there has been an overt effort by the JD dealers to agree not to discount. Very difficult to prove.

I know, Ron. I only wish we had a little yellow emoticon for [tongue-in-cheek]. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My local Deere dealer seems to have no problem at all varying from MSRP on parts and accessories... UPWARD!

I agree with Ron. All of the dealers start with a list price and work from that. The price they quote you will depend on a lot of things but for small items like this most will not do much discounting. I suspect that like with most things the dealer's cost has a lot to do with how large a volume of business he does with the factory. The more he buys the less his cost is and the more likely he is to pass the savings on the the customer but this also depends on the local competition. I doubt that few if any dealers do much volume on forks but it you tie the forks into a package then they would be more likely to discount all parts of the purchase. I also do business with a Kubota dealer for implements and I know he does not discount from the list prices for me because most of the stuff I buy from him are special orders but at least he does not charge me extra for shipping. The JD dealer I work with bases his prices on what he pays for the the equipment and the list price. If he buys in quantity for stock and gets a discount he passes it on to me but if he paid the dealer list price or special orders for me he charges me list. I learned long ago to not get too worked up over the price of specialty items because if the dealer does not make money he will close his doors and I will have to go a lot farther to find the stuff I want. I complained about the prices a local tool dealer charged because I could get the same things much cheaper by mail order. Well he went out of business because too many people bought by mail order so for years I had to wait for a week to get that special carving gouge I needed and then it might not be just what I wanted. I learned that it was worth supporting the local guy so I could run down and get exactly what I needed and be back home in an hour using the tool. I would not want to have to buy tractor implements remotely. I like to see what I am getting beforehand so I don't mind paying a little more to help insure that the local guy is still around tommorrow.

Centex, VERY WELL SAID!!!!!!!

I agree. The last thing I want to happen to my JD dealer, is to have him get out of the business. When I ordered my forks (paid around $900), I think there was freight added because they had to come in by truck. Someone had to pay it, and that someone was me.

Such is life (or is this where the Govt. should step in and feel my pain and pay for the shipping, or "force" the dealer to pay it). As I say, someone has to pay, and no matter what, it will be me - one way or another - if I want the item.

I paid $900 for 430 loader forks. Very happy, zero complaints.

Gary,

<font color=blue>I'd think Deere had their dealers involved in price fixing</font color=blue>

I don't think price fixing in as much as there may not be much of a profit margin to work with in the lower priced attachments. All dealers work off the same MSRP. They can only come down so much and still retain some profit for themselves. If you find any dealers out there involved in price fixing, it'll likely be of the upward nature where they offer an item at MSRP or even above it.

If you're going to quote me, PLEASE don't quote me out of context. It's totally misleading. The entire sentence <font color=blue>"If I didn't know better, I'd think Deere had their dealers involved in price fixing"</font color=blue> has a different meaning than what you chose to quote and is no more accurate of what I wrote than had you chosen to quote only the words <font color=blue>"Deere had their dealers involved in price fixing."</font color=blue>

I did NOT write that I thought John Deere had their dealers involved in price fixing. Price fixing is illegal and I do not believe the John Deere would ever attempt to coerce their dealers into such a crime. Further, I do not believe that John Deere dealers would collude among themselves to commit such a crime.

The clear indication there is that I DO know better, and that price fixing is not the case. To make certain there would be no misunderstandings, I noted in a subsequent post that the price fixing reference was made "tongue-in-cheek."

For what it's worth, I stopped at an area Deere dealer today and priced the very forks about which this thread was begun. I was quoted $1,005 list and a purchase price of $875 with the clear implication that there was likely some more room for negotiation if/when I became a buyer instead of a shopper.

I was quoted about $820 by the guys at Midlawn.com as part of a package price w/ the tractor. I didn't buy green but I liked the guys there, they were the only JD dealer willing to give me breakdowns on the prices.
