Never bought a tractor before and I need some advice whether this is a good deal.

5403 with 4WD
522 Loader
MX6 cutter
Freight/set-up
Tire loading

Total is $30,100

This includes a trade assoc. discount but I can't use the 0% financing. If I want to use the 0% financing, the quote is $32,400. They want to charge $500 for the tire loading - is that high?

Can not comment on the 5403 price but the last 2 JD tractors I bought the loaded tires were at no charge. After the deal was made, the dealer ask me if I wanted the back tires loaded. What are they loading the back tires with?

Sounds to me like the tractor dealer is trying to add pure profit to the deal just like a car dealer.

Personally I bought a JD tractor for what I thought was a very reasonable price and the JD dealer did charge me for filling the rear tires, I think it was around $400 to fill 16.9x28 R1s with rimguard. I would guess the 5403 has slightly larger rears and $500 doesn't strike me as unreasonable. In my area tractors are not sold with filled tires included in the price - it is an option, and a few dealers don't even do the filling themselves but instead tell you where to go to get tires filled (from a company not affiliated with the dealer). Not everyone wants tires filled - you may want wheel weights or you may not want any ballast on the tractor - and why would the dealer give it free if you want it and not discount the tractor if you don't want it? The labor to fill tires is not that much, but the actual filling does cost something, especially the less corrosive/less toxic fills like rimguard.

The price itself sounds very reasonable given that that is the 2008 MFWD model and that the quote includes an MX6 cutter, which I think is over $2000 by itself. For comparison I paid $26,300 for a 5105 MFWD with the 522 FEL. I believe this was roughly a $5000 discount off "list" prices (combination of JD rebate and dealer discount). I also bought an LX6 but I think apples to apples comparisons are best and tractor/FEL gives you the easiest way to compare.

I would say that's a pretty fair quote. I was quoted $27,250 for a 5203 4WD and 522. Bought an MX6 last year for $2200.

When I bought my 5203 in 2005 the salesman just asked me if I wanted the tires filed and said it was free. This dealer was nearly 3k cheaper than my first quote and I bet the first quote did not include filled tires but I don't know as I walked away without further discussion. The first quote was JD retail off the website.

Maybe your dealer was including the loading in the price you got, and would have made even more profit had you chosen not to load the tires?

There was a RimGuard booth at the Big Iron show in Fargo a few weeks back. His pricing was about $0.30/lb the beet juice looked like 5W motor oil. CaCl filling might have included tubes to help protect the rims.
