Do you need the trailor? The only way a trailor would help me is if I spent a whole lot more money getting a truck that would pull it. I decided that if I need to go to the shop I'll have to pay someone to transport it.

So on one side you have a trailer, HST and 45hp and an extra $1250 to spend on something and on the other side you just have 55hp. If that 10 hp is worth 1250 plus hst plus a trailer then go for it, otherwise take door #1:D

I'm glad I didn't have that choice, I had a used DK55 come my way so I took it.

It sounds like you have 2 great deals to choose from.

This is a tuff one for me I hate to try to sway a customer to a larger tractor.
Sit down and talk to the dealer and tell him what you want to do with the tractor.
Then think what you will be using the tractor for 3-5 years from now are you getting one to small just to get you by because you didn't want to spend a little extra now or couldn't spend it now?
If the dealer cares about his customers he will listen and give some tips or pointers, not just sell the next tractor coming due on his floor plan.

I don't think you will find a better dealer to listen to you (besides me) than where you are at now.
Also when and if you buy tell Alan you want a cool hat like that Wallace tractor dealer has;):D

Get the big one. I also thought that the box blade (Howse) was too flimsey for the power of the tractor. You might make a deal on the tractor/loader and finance it and pick up the implements as needed. The guys you are talking to are the same that I bought from I think and will treat you well.

How essential is the hydrostatic for you? You must need a trailer to get the tractor to your land? If either of these things are not important to you I would consider the 55. Both tractors will be able to do a lot of ripping and tearing, the big difference is the turbo on the 55.

Thanks DrRick. Are you familiar with the Modern Group, Modern Ag Products galvanized rotary cutters and box scrapers? I wonder if galvanized finish would be better in a salt air environment. Otherwise, what manufacturer would be recommended?

I am not familier with that group. I have an old bush hog and a servis highway special shredder. The bush hog did not hold up as well as the Servis. I have had good luck with rhino products. I would think the galvanize finish would be a plus. I think that a heavier duty shredder will do well and I would suggest a slip clutch, as the electric engaged PTO can shear a shearpin quickly on a light unit.I have run a 15 ft batwing with my DK55C., but that is only in light fields.
