In some ways it sounds like you need a Swiss Army Knife. I have much less than 40 acres and cannot imagine life without the FEL - both Bucket & Forks. At times I max out the lifting power of the 3320.
At the time, the X749 was discontinued and there were no good used at a decent price, therefore I went with X739 to get the AWS / AWD. Awesome machine for the purpose. Although the fuel consumption may be a bit more than diesel, it starts instantly, possibly a bit quieter than diesel and has all the power needed more my application and don't have to listen to DW complain about the diesel fumes when she drives. I don't like crawling around on the ground to R&R the deck so find the Drive Over / Auto Connect an excellent feature, especially compared to R&R the deck on the 3320.

Sounds like a great price for a new 1025 and 1023. I'm leaning toward the R version or an x739 as CinderSchnauzer was saying, except I really want diesel to save $$ in the long run. Not sure why they didn't make the x758 with AWS or a CUT with AWS. I will definitely utilize the 4WD during the winter months snowblowing with either a GT or CUT.

There are lots of arguments to convince yourself (or wife) that you "need" a diesel. As a landscaper the fuel economy may well be a no brainer. For a homeowner mowing 2 - 3 acres in MI, with a relatively short grass season, it may be more difficult. I find it takes about 1 hour per acre to mow with the 60" deck on my X739, considering terrain & obstacles. Sometimes, it almost seems faster on the X739 than with the 3320 / 72" deck because of greater mobility on the hills / obstacles.

It can be a fun math exercise, using local fuel costs and local cost to purchase gas or diesel option. In my case, even using a 50% saving for diesel (probably not achievable) it would have taken about 15 - 20 years to pay back the extra cost for a X749 - assuming I could have found a new one, or go with diesel and give up either AWS or AWD.

Put in another context, an extra $5 or $10 a week for gas over a 5 - 6 month grass season, when compared to the rest of my costs of living, becomes a minor consideration.

Now if it just a simple case of "wanting" a diesel lawn tractor - well go for it, if you can find the one you want either new or used.

As mentioned above, the 0% option with a new purchase can be very attractive, and a whole separate debate by itself. Using myself as an example, I had the choice of paying lots of cash for used x749 (couldn't find a good one anyway) or buy a new X739. Got my discount on the new X739 (12% - 15% range IIRC) gave a small down payment and pay $200 / month. In many ways it was like getting a free new lawn tractor, since I don't really seem to miss the monthly payment, but certainly would have missed the $15K hole in the bank account. Pricing comments are in the ballpark from memory for illustrative purpose - I didn't go to the invoice for total accuracy.

I have a 2010 2320 with 450 hours and I'm very happy with it. I've figured out how to lube the driveshaft and other than a fan belt (and a punctured front tire sidewall - my fault) it's been nothing but normal maintenance. That said, the one listed is overpriced. I bought mine with loader, 62D and box blade for $18,000. Also be aware the turf tires may be great for mowing but don't have the capacity/traction for loader work. I'm not sure why you would want turf tires and then load them. A ballast box would make more sense.

Anyway, a 2320 is a good choice. The 54" deck is better if you have an unlevel lawn but it doesn't allow you to get quite as close under bushes, etc. I think the 62" is better matched to the tractor. However, I wouldn't go for this one unless he came down at least 3K and maybe more.

I agree that diesel is more a matter of preference. If a person is concerned about justifying the purchase of a diesel in an economic sense it may not pencil out.

I think a person trying to decide between a 4 wheel steer mower and a subcut has to decide whether a fel is more important or the 4 wheel steer is more important.

Is this a good deal on 1025R?

Looks like a 1025R might be in my near future. Can you kind folks let me know if this seems like a reasonable deal 2013 John Deere 1025R Tractor For Sale >> Ginop Sales, Inc.

With all the attachments, seems to be a pretty good deal considering my needs on 40 acres. And I could find a use for the pallet forks and back blade, and the heated cab would be nice for snowblowing.
For comparision, the price for a new 1025R with a H120 loader, 60D deck, and 54in snowblower is $22K, with 0% financing, but it would have a warranty to go along with it.

It does look like a reasonable deal. Maybe they will deal a bit on it also. A few comments - The cab is an Original Tractor Cab soft cab. I have the same one. I like it a lot but my guess is it is not heated. Not an issue but I have to wear a jacket when I blow snow - not a T-shirt like some others. It's about $1000 new. The back blade is OK but I think you will want a box blade if you do any real landscaping. The forks look like clamp ons, so the back blade and forks are about $500 new. So you are looking at $23,500 or less new value. I'd start out trying to get a couple of thousand more off and see how they react. Just my opinion.

Thanks Kenny! While I was at Baders in Lake City looking at new ones this morning, the salesman up North called me and said a guy drove 5 hours this morning to look at it and he ultimately bought it. And the cab was heated btw. After seeing the new ones and really liking them, I'm pretty sure I would have pulled the trigger on the used one for that price with options. But I'll be happy with a new one and add to it as finances allow.
