All equipment sold by the majors have a 23% discount from list price as the invoice price for the dealer.
Manufacturer could have additional discount to dealer. New Holland's is currently 1% of invoice, Deere nothing.
Take invoice, what the dealer profit you want, $250 factory freight to dealer, and set up of 6 to 8 hours of shop time. Presto, sale price. Expect dealers not to accept offer if less than 10% of invoice.
Ask when they received the unit. They get it for six months for free, after that they have to pay interest on it at something like prime rate +3%. The closer it is to coming due, the more they would like to sell it.
Most dealer work off of volume. Make it easy on them, and they will cut you a deal. Demand a bunch of support or freebies and expect to pay a high price.
Finance rates cost money. Deere currently charges dealers 1% of finance amount to pay for the low interest rates. New Holland takes away the 1% discount. Dealer is also rewarded or measured on how much finance business he draws to the manfactures credit arm. Expect them to push you to it.
