I'm looking at a L2800 4WD with 144 hours. Has a LA463 and a BH75. This is the gear shift model (Not HST) and he is asking $19K. I have no idea weather this is a good price or not or if I would be making a big mistake not getting HST xmission.

I have 30 acres most in trees and a 1/2 mile lane so need a box blade and maybe a mower, but I have a JD 757 and that does a good job on the grass. Mostly I need it for the BH and some heavy lifting-I would add chain hooks to the bucket.

My area is JD country and the nearest Kubota dealer is a hour away so service on the Kubota could be a problem but I always do everything myself anyhow so maybe a dealer is not too important.

Machine is in very good condition always kept in a shed. So far I have been unable to even get a price on a new one with this equipment. Brady Barlow does not have one and offered a larger machine for more money. Any ideas out there.
thanks

New that combo would be maybe $26 or so....the gear shift would be fine as long as you don't mind shifting gears. The nice thing about gear shifts is huge pushing power, and more control.

Price about right, and you are making a big mistake not getting a HST. Much better control with loader operations with HST. I have owned 2 of each type Gear and HST.. its HST now for me. Will never go back.
Everyone to his own opinion. And everyone has one. Yep 5 or 6 percent power loss applied to the ground, and makes a little but of a whiney sound, and worth every penny extra you pay for it up front. Just as reliable or more so than gear, counting clutch jobs on gear machines. Cost 15 to 20 bucks more on fluid and filter changes, and worth every penny. Did I say that already a couple of times already?:D My HST makes me smile every time I use it.

You should be aware that Kubota has had problems with a "jerky" 3 point hitch on the basic L series tractors like the L2800, which makes it difficult to use a box blade smoothly.

Apparently not all have the problem, my L3400 does. There are several threads here detailing the problem.

I have 3 gear drive loader tractors. Sometimes they are run all day. No issues.

I bought A l2800 4wd HST with a loader, 5' bush hog brand hog, boxblade and 20' dovetail trailer for 10k your price sounds a little sounds high to me.

Check out this link, I just bought it all for 13K. From what I can tell I got an exceptional deal on it though.

It is a HST and I have only had it one day so not much experience. I did mess around in a pile of dirt with the loader and tried to make the tires spin a little. It is tough to spin them, tractor pulls down a little. My other B7500 is much smaller and gear drive with a foot gas pedal. I love the way it pushes, for a small tractor it will dig holes with the tires spinning with all ease. I have the tires on it loaded also and they are not on the L2800HST. The L2800 will obviously do more work due to it's heavier frame and little more HP, but pound for pound I don't think it holds a candle to the little one that is gear driven.

HST is more convenient in operation especially FEL back and forth stuff, but gear driven is the work horse as far as strength and power in pushing and pulling. Either way I think you gain something and you loose something, it is just which swap are you willing to go with. Right now, if I just had the choice I would go gear driven, maybe because I am still young enough that pushing a clutch doesn't bother me to bad. Once I use this L2800 a little more I may change my mind. Who knows....
