I got a letter from my oil/fluids supplier today. As of January 1, there will be a 6% to 9% increase across the board for all oils, fluids, etc. The company I deal with doesn't raise their prices very often, so I found this to be noteworthy. My existing price sheets, good until Dec. 31, are from July of 2006. Just something to keep in mind if you have any kind of maintenance in the near future.

That's pretty funny when a barrel is going down into the eighties again.

It's the refining and timing process.

Great.

Don't forget that everything it takes to make the finished petro product and transport it adds to the cost of the finished product. Bottles are made of oil, petro products are used to generate power to make oil/fuel, fuel and oil is used to transport fuel and oil. As the price of a 42 gallon barrel of oil goes up the cost to produce something from it exponentially goes up also.

News today was that OPEC said it will not increase production since it feels there is plenty flowing out of their taps currently. This will no doubt add to the price.

We need to be drilling EVERYWHERE in this country and the gulf of Mexico.

I would have to disagree. I'm not for destroying the little bit of undisturbed environment that we have left. Alaska should be left as is. We need to find alternative energy sources instead of depending on something that is a dwindling resource. We haven't been able to supply our own oil needs since the 70's.

The Alaska pipeline didn't destroy the environment and neither will drilling in a small portion of ANWAR and the gulf. Alternative energy sources and conservation wont solve the problem. People have been preaching that since the 70s. It has not and will not solve the problem. More oil supply will.

How bout we do both? Drill and conserve. See too many moms dropping off their kids in trucks that could haul semis. We, like the rest of the world want to have our cake and eat it too! BTW it is cheaper to conserve that it is to use expensive alternatives or find more oil. -Ed

Conserving is fine, but it's not going to do diddley. The simple reality is growing economies need more oil. Proof? Look at China.

What exactly is 'too many' and exactly who judges this? Higher gas prices take care of this problem.

Interesting fact about Offshore drilling. The rigs make great habitat for shrimp.
