What is a reasonable offer for a 2002 JOHN DEERE 20 HORSEPOWER 4110 4 WHEEL DRIVE TRACTOR WITH A 410 LOADER AND 54 MOWER DECK? Any drawbacks to this model I should be aware of? Thanks for the comments...

One drawback is that the 54" mower may be slightly small for this size tractor. You may wish to find one with a 60" mower.

I have a 4100 - the predecessor to the 4110 - with a 60" deck and 410 loader, and it has been a very good machine for me while constructing our house and now maintaining the yard.

For mowing, I find it is just on the verge of being too heavy for very fine finish mowing - you need to avoid very wet ground conditions to avoid compaction.

However, it is big enough to be somewhat useful with the loader while small enough to be very manueverable. You will need some type of counterweight on the 3-point to keep the back end down with a full load in the bucket - check if the machine includes a ballast box.

I, like Keeney have a 4100 that I bought for the same reasons that he stated. I have a new house going up maybe later this year and know I will have a minimum of 100' driveway where we get a lot of snow each year. I paid $9,000 for my 1999 4100 with a 410 loader and 54" MMM (which I wish was a 60") with just under 250 hours on it when I bought it. I have not used it to mow with yet, but it has been great with the other chores I've thrown its way.

I will re-phrase my previous comment because I didn't mean to imply that the 54" deck will be any kind of a problem. I just meant to say that the tractor is powerful enough to easily handle the 60" deck. I don't think the difference in mowing productivity will be all that noticable unless you have multiple acres of wide-open area to cut.

The 54" deck has its advantages in terms of being smaller and lighter. It will take less room in the garage and fit on a smaller trailer. Also, slightly less weight to drag around when removing or re-mounting.

Check the battery compartment area for signs of corrosion. There's several posts here about a leaky battery issue and how to resolve it. Also, a couple of other 4110 owners have posted info about a leak on the rear axle seal.

Thanks for the feedback Rick, Norm, Smoked. Another question, if you're still viewing...this unit has manual trans vs. hydro. Do you find that this is a pain having to pause to shift gears?

Mine is a gear and hasn't been a problem for me, but an auto (hydro) trans is usually a nice feature, just as when driving a car if that's your preference.

I don't have any experience with the gears, mine's a hydro. You'll find people here that swear by each version, I'd go with whatever you find more comfortable.

Gear vs Hydro is a very personal question to ask - almost a religious question! :) There are meany long threads on these boards concerning that subject.

I have hydro and am very happy with it. I have never used a gear-shift tractor for serious work, so I cannot offer a comparison.
