Hi all,

I am considering a 2001 NH TC40D with a 16LA loader, cab with heat, and about 800 hours. It's a hydro and the tires are 60-70%. The machine appears to be in very good condition (from dealer's description and pictures I've seen).

The dealer is asking $17,000 for the machine. I've been reading posts trying to get at numbers, but it's hard to get a feel for used stuff. Is this a reasonable price?

Thanks for any help,

Tom

Tom,

Welcome to TBN. It is hard to tell if your price is good or not. The area you live in will dictate whether or not it is a good price. Fill in your profile so people can tell the area your from. The people in your area can tell you best if it is a good price or not.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm in RI (not much of a used tractor market here). This unit is in NJ.

I tried casting a pretty wide net on the 'Iron Search' site and didn't come up with any really comparable units.

Is there a way to find out what this machine would have listed for in 2001?

Tom, that tractor sold for around $22,000 when it was new. The cab is not a factory cab, so it's hard to guess what that would have cost or what it's worth. You didn't mention Supersteer, so if it has that, you'll probably have to add another $1,000 to the new price.

All things considered, that tractor's tires should be 95% for only 800 hr unless it has been used on concrete or asphalt. My tractor has the same number of hours and you can hardly see any wear on the rear tires with slight wear on the front ones. I've used mine completely on dirt, so that's why there is such little wear.

I'd say $17,000 is a fair price, but if you don't feel good about it when you see it, offer less or walk away. You might offer $15,000 and see if he'll take it or negotiate some.

According to the used tractor guide it says:

Approximate retail price new: $20,806

Used premium condition: $18,858
Used good condition: $18,309
Used fair condition: $17,477

Hope this helps
These are tractor only prices without loader. So $17,000 does not sound to bad if the tractor is in pretty good condition.

My dealer offered $18,000 for my TC35D w/ SS for a trade in on a TN75.. and that was w/ a 1000 hrs.
