I'm in need of a larger tractor for clearing land and road improvement on my 100+ acres. I found a used 2002 JD 5320 2wd with 250 hours. (no loader or shuttle shift) The person that has it is asking 15,000 for it. It is a very clean tractor and seems to be well taken care of. Is this a fair price? I drove one of Kubota's Grand L series and I really liked it due to the shuttle and "power shift" but I don't think I can justify the extra expense. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Base price new on that machine is $23,100. That's before you figure any accessories which it doesn't sound like that one has much. Your best deal on a new one is probably going to be around 20-23% off of list. So best deal circumstances you're looking at $17,787. And that's still considering that tractor had no upgrades. I don't think $15k is out of line. Offer him less and see what happens. Not many people ask what they are willing to take.

The 5320 is a pretty big tractor but I would look for a MFWD if I was using it to clear land. That tractor also has a turbo engine if that matters. I cleared some pretty thick woods with a tractor and MFWD was necessary where I was. Lucky I had a backhoe attachement so I could literally dig my way out of some soggy areas even with the differental locked and in FWD. 15K sounds like a fantastic price if the tractor is not abused..
