The thread on the X729/749 & have started looking at them to replace my X475.
What would be a good price for each with a 62C deck?

Also is the 60" 7 Iron deck a lot better than the 62C.

I don't know how good my price was but when I added up the x749, 48" deck, 540 pto option and limited cat 1 3PH I got it for 15% off of list price. I would assume since you have the 2x20 series you wouldn't need those options but it would seem the discount structure should remain the same.

About the mower decks, I had to keep mine as narrow as possible for customer yards and is the only reason for choosing the 48" deck. I would have gone with a larger deck for my own uses at home. The 7 iron 60" deck is a better deck imo but isn't available with the all wheel steer models. You would have to decide which is more important aws or the 7 iron. For my uses the aws was more important and so far I think I made the right choice.

I have the old 60" which is basically the same as the 7 Iron and the 62C. They both work good, Blondes or Brunettes to me. Now if one was a red head it would be a different story:laughing:

The 7 iron is widely regarded to be quite superior to any of the yellow decks.
Major reasons are much smoother inside, and much more uplift.

PS I have a 748 with a 60" 7iron so maybe I am prejudiced

I also tried out the AWS and found the 748 with 24" turning radius turned plenty tight. I don't believe you can use the 7 iron with an AWS and if that is the case I would go with the 748se.

Thanks everyone. Still not decided on the type deck. I do not want a AWS. I had a 425 AWS. It was nice for some things, but I did not like it for others.
I am also looking at used mowers.

I got a price today from the dealer.

X728 with a 60" deck with a 2002 X475 trade & sales tax. $8,560

X748 with a 60" deck with a 2002 X475 trade & sales tax. $9,586

The 62c deck has a faster blade tip speed than the 7iron. I believe it is 16,500 vs 17,350 but don 't quote me exactly but I know i'm close. The 62c deck is 2 inches wider than the 7iron. The 7iron deck is thicker gauge metal than the 62c. The 62c deck has been reinforced over the older style 62 deck. The 7iron is a deeper deck designed to process a lot of grass more efficiently. I have used both types of decks. They both will need to be scraped clean regularly. They both cut very well. A lot depends on the type of blades that you use. The 7iron on a JD997 turns about 18,000 plus fpm.
