I have an opportunity to by a new Woods Brush Bull BB72 6' bush hog rotary mower for $1300. Seems like I've seen them sell for $1600 somewhere. Does $1300 sound right for this mower? I'm getting a JD 4520 with a 400CX loader delivered next week and I'm searching for implements ahead of time. Any thought, good or bad, with this particular mower?

Sounds like a steal to me. I was quoted $1800 for the BB72 and another $200 for safety chains, which are highly, highly recommended.

The Woods BB72 is a top of the line rotary cutter and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Among the best on the market. Just be certain it is not a Woods "Heritage" mower (which is NOT model #BB72) because those are much lower quality and sell for under $1000.

Thanks Z. I think I'm going to buy it. I've looked at used and lower end cutters, like King Kutter and Howse, and Woods is just heavier duty and better built. The only thing that I wished it had was the rear chains; it does have the rubber shirt though.

I paid about $1200 for the brush bull 60" last year. $1300 would be a good price with probably about 4-$500 off retail if my calculations were correct on my purchase.

I have beat this thing pretty bad last year and just touched up the blades over the weekend. There are a few dents in the side skirts from rocks, but nothing major. I think the skirting is pretty heavy compared to some others.

Another nice feature is how the rounded rear is reinforced. I've been able to push all the brush/trees I've cared to try to grind up over with no damage to the unit.

I opted not for the chains. I just keep the kids and dog away when cutting, but if you have the extra $200 and people/cars/etc will be within striking range, then they will be a good purchase; however, some items can still be thrown out even with the chains.

Good luck!

Dave

I am interested in the BB840. The price that I have seen for it is about $3200. So, extrapolating for a light-duty vs. medium duty and one foot smaller. . . .I'd have to guess that's an excellent price. If you are trying to choose between Woods and King Kutter or Howse, definately go with Woods.

So, I say go for it!!

FWIW, I paid $1950 for my medium duty BB720. It's an 1100 pound beast.

From what I've seen that's a steal. Are you sure it was new? And it wasn't a BB72? The two cutters I'm most interested in right now are Woods BB840 and Bush Hog 297. The price for the Woods I've seen is around $3200 and for the Hog is $2800. Over $1000 seems like a huge difference for a foot of extra cutting width. But if you truly got a brand new BB720 for that price I wanna know your dealer!!! That'd be almost worth a trip!

I did pay $1950 for the BB720. I bought it along with a M4900, loader, disk, and spreader. My dealer was Seal Tractor in Woodville, MS.
