Tractor
John Deer 1025r with Loader and 60D Mower
I am currently in the market for my first tractor and am planning on buying new and taking advantage of the 0% financing offered by dealers. We just bought a house with 3 acres, which means we have very little cash on hand, and yet I need something to manage this place ASAP as it is already getting unruly. I had previously thought to spend 1-2K on a riding lawnmower that will hold me over for a couple years. My current thinking is maybe it would be smarter to buy a SCUT for signficantly more, but that can accomplish all the work I need done here. We are planning to be here at least as long as the 5-6 year financing period. We need the tractor for mowing, landscaping, some tilling/plowing, and every little thing a front loader can assist with (I grew up with a new holland with a FEL so I know how wonderful they are at making a working day less work).

I'm not asking for input on what SCUT as I see that question asked enough. Rather, I am currently shopping prices for the 1025R with a FEL and a 60" Mid Mount Mower. I got a quote for 18,600.00 out the door including taxes and all fees. That includes filled rear tires to provide ballast for the FEL. I was really hoping to get the tractor for less than that (was hoping to stay under 17, but really around 16). Is this the going rate for 1025R? Has anybody purchased one of these recently and mind sharing their final cost and how they went about negotiating with the dealer? Also, would I be any better off looking at the BX series in Kubota if I hope to find something at this price with FEL and MMM.

Thanks so much guys. Been really enjoying reading the threads here the last couple weeks as I started down the rabbit hole.

Welcome! Not sure what other dealers are around you or if you are set on getting a JD but I would shop around if possible. There is a lot of competition in the SCUT market with wide range of capabilities and prices. I would sit on as many as you can to get a feel for what you like. Also the 0% offers aren't always the best deal. Do the math the to see which option is better. I ended up with the 3.99% from Agco which was a better deal than the 0% offer since there was a $2k difference in price. I think you can get to your price point but you might have to be a non green tractor ;)

Don't know the going price. I paid $12k for my new holland boomer 24. No MMM so add a couple thou for that.

Green paint is expensive.

Thanks so much guys. Been really enjoying reading the threads here the last couple weeks as I started down the rabbit hole.

My experience was that Kubota price might be a little less than Deere, but not thousands, more like hundreds. Kubota BX's are great machines, I liked the one I tested. I had already tested a Massey GC17xx beforehand, which I liked better, and which had better specs for the loader and backhoe (I got a GC1720). I got a backhoe and no mower deck, and my Massey's price was better by more than 2K on the base machine compared to Kubota, probably a bigger difference vs 1025R FILB but I didn't like the dealer here so I didn't price the Deere at all.

Price is one thing, but so is the dealer - the feel you get, how far away they are. One of the reasons I bought Massey is when I was looking, the service guy helped me because the sales guy was busy; I got to know the service guy and was impressed. If you get a chance to talk to anyone in the dealer's service department, take it.

Thinking about how you'll use it, if you envision removing/installing the mower deck and loader, the Deere and new Kubotas are compelling. The H120 loader on the 1025R is a great quick attach system. The new Kubota one-ups it with quick-connect manifold for the loader hydraulics - you can completely remove loader without leaving your tractor seat. For me, I envision keeping loader on almost all the time, esp. since I'm not mowing with it (have a zero turn already). For those who mow, quick detach can be a bigger deal.
