I am new to the forum and joined because I am looking at a used YM336D. I had not heard of the Yanmar brand before seeing this tractor and am hoping some of you may be able to give me some advice. 1. First is the price. The tractor is a 93 with 650 hrs. It has a yanmar bucket loader and a woods backhoe included. The owner is asking $13,500 in upstate, NY (Binghamton). Does this sound reasonable? 2. I don't think there is a local Yanmar dealer so I am wondering about future service needs. How is availability of service/parts for these machines in the US? Is there another brand name dealer that is most likely to be familiar with Yanmars for service? 3. How does the general reliability of the Yanmar brand compare to some of the big brands like JD or Kubota for example. 4. Are there any pitfalls or common mechanical problems with this brand or this particular model that I should look into before buying? Thanks in advance for your help.

Caruston66:

Hummm, where to start on this. First of all from all the reasearch on the Yanmar tractors made for sales in the USA I belive the 336D is the best out of all of them. Yanmar really got this one right, infact there was a time when U-haul had and rented these tractors if that tells you how well built they were.

Parts are still avable for the tractors that were made for USA sales either through a yanmar dealer or Martin diesel who is the USA dealer for Yanmar. I don't have the 800 number here with me right now but I have called them before and had them ship parts for my Yanmar to my local dealer, very easy

The loader that Yanmar used on there tractors was one of the best and power shift was nice too, I'll take it that the guy or dealer who has it knows what he has (the 336D are very hard to find, if I come across one some day I will open my checkbook and own it) I think the price maybe a little on the high side but for the N.Y. area maybe not.

Reliability you ask, compaired to John Deere you say???? Yanmar still to this day builds all of John Deere's compact tractors, does that tell you anything? If the sheet metal is in good shape and the rims are not rusting off of it and over all it runs good I'd latch ahold of that thing in a heart beat, of course that's just me and as you can tell I want a 336D/factory loader bad /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
