Yanmar 1500D
Stopped at my local Massey dealer to check out the GC2410. This is a very small dealer and he sells mostly farm implements and only had two small tractors on the lot. He has one GC2410 and a GC2400. The GC2410 has been sitting on the lot for 3-4 years. It has 3 hours on the meter just from moving it around the lot and people testing it out.

This tractor has been out in the weather for at least 3 years and the paint is extremely faded. It looks worse than my 30+ year old Yanmar 1500D. The GC2400 sitting right next to it just came in within the past two weeks and it is a nice and shiny bright red color compared to the dull and faded GC2410.

The dealer said he would let the GC2410 go for $14K and it has 18 months of warranty left on it. He said MF made him buy the tractor as dealer owned inventory in January this year after sitting on his lot for 3 years and not selling. He also had to start the warranty clock running at that time.

Because it is a dealer owned tractor none of the current incentives that MF is running would apply. (0% financing or free loader or free MMM).

Quesiton is what is a fair price to pay for this tractor knowing it sat outside in the elements for so long and with the paint is so faded and dull? Would you have to worry about seals and things like that?

He would have to order a new but it priced out at $19K before you take off for your choice of incentives..

i.e. the 0% financing would have no discount on price.
The free loader or mmm would reduce the price by the cost of those items. So if a loader cost $3K and you took that as the incentive the new machine it would be at $16K.

Is a $2K discount enough to compensate for the new but used looking machine? I am thinking it should be less than that.

These prices are all before any haggling on my part.

Really doesn't sound too bad. A used machine with 100-300 hours would sell for that. Probably without any warranty. You get a "used" machine with 18 months of warranty for the same price.

If you need to finance, new is the way to go with the current 0% offers.

I would have him clean up the machine & put a new rear deck on if it's faded that bad. Warranty will pay for it anyway.

I would offer $13,500 if interested in a 2410 tlb, if the dealer would have a body shop buff the paint. If the dealer says no to Body Shop, photograph the 2410 and ask the Dealer what kind of paint (Enamel - Lacquer) and talk to a body shop and ask what they would use if requested to restore a shine to the paint. It may be just as simple as a light buffing with a white or red buffing compond and then waxing. A good rainy Saturday afternoon job.

I am pretty sure he would want to move it. I would start at $13000 and just take it. If the seals or something is damaged from setting out in the sun, I would think it would show up fairly quick. You have 18 months for something to go bad. I would take a GOOD look at ALL the fluids BEFORE starting and running it for condensation or water in it. Take a flashlight and check the front axle through the fill plug and check the hydro fluid too. The engine oil should not be black yet. If he takes the $13000 and the faded paint bothers you just take some Nufinish wax and try that. If it don't work. Go and get some rubbing compound from a auto parts store. With some of elbow grease, your machine will look new! Then stand back and say, "Wow, I just bought a new GC2410 19,000 dollar machine for 13000!" And smile for a job well done. I would think that the dealer would want to dump it since he is loosing money while it is setting there.

My 2400 had the same faded problem on the back end. They made the back fenders out of plactic and did not paint it. The plastic fades very fast. They replaced my back fenders with a new ones that were painted. If thats where it looks faded, I don't think you can buff that out.

The real beauty of buying this machine is not the condiiton of the paint but the fact that your gonna pay 6-7k less for a new machine than I did for mine. Buy it you wont regret it, anything exposed to the sun is replaceable. Check for thinks like weathered tires, weathred hydraulic hoses but the heart and sole of htis tractor is not exposed to the sun.
