I notice that sometimes to explain something that was posted, an attachment as a "print screen" is posted. I used the print screen option years ago with dos but I didn't think that option was available with windows. I use XP & have not seen any shotcut/fastkey option to do a print screen. Is there an option within Windows XP to do this or are the posters using an outside program to perform the task. Your help will be appreciated, Thanks

I just tried a print screen using the Print Screen button on the keyboard on two machines. One is a Win 98SE PC, the other is an XP home on a laptop.

Using the print screen copies the open window to the clipboard so you can paste the image in another application. I tried pasting it in Excel and MS Paint. Works in both...

The Print Screen button should be just to the right of the F12 button, if you're using a standard keyboard.

If I understand you right, which I am not sure if I am but if you want to use print screen in Windows XP you just hit the print screen and Windows will then allow you to paste it in a word document or anything else by just using your edit then paste commands or just CTL V. DOS actually printed it for you.

Yeah....we're fast here on TBN.

BTW, the Print Screen will also paste in Irfanview and Vuepro, two of the image viewers I have installed, as well as the Kodak Image viewer that comes with quite a few Windows machines (default viewer).

Roy/Murph.....
Many Thanks, I didn't realize that when I hit the print screen button, it actually copied it to the system because I see nothing on screen. I hit the print screen button & then went to MSPaint & did a paste & voila. My thanks to you guys for the simple fix, appreciate it !!

If you only want one "window" within the screen, you can click on that window, then hit "alt-printscreen". Then paste that to your favorite app.
