It leaves junk all over your system. I had to manually remove them via instructions from a site by some guy named Dave.

- Many over the years, + '05 JD-4410 TLB, but quite proud of my big green "Rolls": AKA: 2006 JD-3520 Cab, HST, Tunes & 2-way tiltmeter, Cobra communications and 6" (x2) rear wheel spacers for a lot less pucker-factor!!
I did not read each and every post here, (as I always do before replying), but I am disgusted with Norton also. They are a professional "VIRUS",.... and viruses should be elliminated and outlawed with major deterents!!
I have tried many times in various fashions to rid both my computers of this bad Norton-VIRUS and each time, things get worse,...Norton "CRAP: keeps popping up all over the screen, the computers are so slow they are almost useless and absolutely "dangerously" ...~stressfull"~!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've even taken it in to have it professionally removed a couple of times but it keeps sneaking back in and causing more problems All my desktop icons have now disappeared.
When I keep on trying, (many, many times) to remove them via Add/Remove it simply flat out tells me,..."You Cannot Remove Norton Products" !!! And then matters get worse,...like the search engine,..(your choice) continually gives me ****. Tried again to remove it and now my e-mail only sends and receives once a week if lucky.
If I didn't have to cut a piece of plywood and go outside on a ladder in the snow to cover the hole,..... I would surely have fired both computers right out through the window I'm sitting beside !!!!!
Aside from TBN, I wish I'd never heard of computers!!! Does it sound like I'm upset? Well yes you could say that,...although just venting here is helping,.... perhaps a double bourbon would help,...worth a try anyway!!!

The problem with Norton is that it gets into the registery files, and uninstall doesn't remove it. I haven't had a chance to hunt down the removal utility..Maybe Google "Norton Removal Utility"

If you're browsing the web today and see a notice that you should press the F1 key (the traditional button used to get "help" in any application), don't do it.
Microsoft is warning of a brand new exploit that can cause computers running Windows XP and using the Internet Explorer web browser to become infected with malware at the push of a button: Specifically, the F1 button.
The flaw is part of the way Visual Basic and Windows Help are implemented within IE, the upshot being that a clever hacker can code a dialog box that will allow the running of any code the hacker wants. Traditionally this means installing any kind of malware or virus on the victim's PC that a hacker desires.
The good news is that this exploit isn't extremely dangerous because it does require user interaction to install itself. Unlike some recent exploits, merely visiting an infected website won't cause harm to your computer: You actually have to "push a button" to be affected.
The bad news is that the F1 button has always been seen as harmless, more so than simply clicking "OK" on the average prompt you might see. When dismissed, the prompt can also be coded to pop up repeatedly, so getting rid of it might not be simple.
Microsoft is advising users that, until a patch can be written and released, users are advised not to press the F1 key while web browsing. No matter how many pop-ups and alerts a user receives, as long as F1 is not pressed this attack will not succeed.
Microsoft has not announced a timeline for the fix, but its next patch release is due on March 9. Hang tight, but don't ask for "help."

i am curious if you folks that are having trouble removing Norton, have tried the "official" norton removal site?? i'm not computer literate enough to know if its all gone from my computer or not, but i do not have any popups or anything else wierd happening, an i would not hesitate to install Norton stuff again, in fact i just installed Norton 360 on my new laptop: the only time i have ever had a virus or malware etc etc, has been when i was running free virus protection, as i am on this computer right now, or when the protection had lapsed for a couple years, as in a used laptop i acquired recently: lots of fun getting rid of the "security tools" virus:
