I posted this in another forum, by=ut this might be more appropriate.
Hello, finally I decided (almost): my Kubota L3830 will be picked up by the dealer to change position of the rear wheels in order to get clearance for tires chains. And here is my point. I have R4 ind. tires with a total rear width practically identical to that of the front end loader, about 72 inches. According to my estimate, changing position to the wheels will bring the total width to about 77-78 inches. Will this difference in width between the FEL and the rear wheels interfere negatively with the use of the FEL itself? In particular with road work like digging a path or a road base? Thanks.

Usually you'd make the road a bit wider than the FEL. Same with digging out road base. Would an extra 3 inches on each side really cause a problem? I don't know, but my guess would be no. I could think that the only problem would be if trying to push through snow with the FEL, and having the wheels stick out a little farther, but the extra stability of having a wider rear would be nice. Sorry I can't really answer your question, but I'd go for it.

He is right!
Stay narrower than the bucket.
If chains are a real problem, consider studs for icey surfaces.
Turfs would be better than R4's for snow/ice traction and they accept chains.

I run my R1 tires set as wide as they will go and I thought it was a bit wider than the R4s but I could be mistaken here is a pic and I will not change mine I run on the hills and I like the stability.I do a lot of FEL work, use a grapple and I don't have a problem with this configuration.

Thank you all for the opinions. I believe that the ideal would be to have a larger bucket with rear chains but since this is not possible I'll probably go for the wider wheels. I will probably check the cost of a set of R1 but I'm afraid it will be too expensive.
Have everybody a good year.

If you check on price of R1 tires and rims, you may want to price it through sales instead of parts. May be cheaper through sales.

Kinda depends on what you are doing with the loader?

It'll work. It's less than perfect for some things - snow for example. But, a person has to adapt as best it works out, and if you need chains, that's how it works out.

If you were building a 20 mile long trench with your tractor 72 inches wide, it would be awful. If you are doing typical compact tractor stuff, well it'll be ok. Worse that happens, you have to put the wheels back, would only take a 1/2 hour.

If you are looking at different tires, perhaps you want to price out a slightly wider bucket???

Stay wide with the tires! Trade with dealer for the wider bucket. Or look around for a wider bucket and put a grabber on the small one.
