Been reading timm's thread and it's quite interesting... a lot of stories from others. I didn't want to hijack his thread but it has got me thinking there has to be people on the other end of this where there has been a dispute and YOU have been the one in the wrong. So let's hear them... don't be shy.

My property only borders farm fields so after tilling/planting I mow up to the crops. It is probably a foot or so past the line but nobody complains :) . I also keep the ditch mowed across the street but nobody complains about that.

It makes me nervous walking on someone else property. For example- I took a shortcut thru 3 houses lawns since my house was around the corner and I had kids with me. I didnt want to leave them in my truck and I didnt want my kids to be walking on the highway with me on way back to house to get gas. :ashamed: I did the same with a can of gas in hand on way back. I dunno if thee nieghbors noticed, but none of them approached me about it so I figured all was good.

When we bought our place 5 years ago there is some woods on it next to the neighbors property line. No fence. The folks that we bought the place from explained the property line incorrectly. I put up a game camera about 50 yards inside the neighbors property line. The neighbor noticed it. He stopped by the house and he took me down to the woods and explained the property line. I took down the camera and apoligized for my mistake. We haven't had a problem since.

When I was 20 and under, we went anywhere, anytime. Camped more times on who knows whose property, more than I can count. Back then, we would hunt after getting whomever owned the lands permission and split the meat, fishing we just did.Things sure changed.

I remember 2 times in my early 20's, I was caught trespassing. I didn't run or hide. Both times I was with someone else that said, "I know where we can go hunting" (They always ran) Both landowners where nice. One even told me I could go all I wanted, if I stopped by the house 1st. He also told me the "buddy" that ran, wasn't welcome.

Now, I wont cross a line, unless it is an emergency of some sort without asking permission.

Years ago when my parents bought their farm, a friend and I decided to explore the old trolley line that runs through it. We went down with machetes and hacked our way through the brush and promptly got turned around. We ended in up in a neighbors back yard, hot, sweaty, dirty, and carrying our machetes. An older woman was in her backyard weeding her flower garden and I believe we may have frightened her just a little. I explained to her that we were the new neighbors and we were a little lost. She calmly looked at us and said "don't ever come on my property again". I know I was in the wrong, and maybe did frighten her, but I thought it was just a little rude. We never did hear from her, and she never did introduce herself to my parents. Oh well, no loss I suppose.

Pretty much explains why you should avoid a "Hatfield/McCoy" thing with your neighbors (goes around/comes around and several other sayings that say the same thing). Sometimes it can't be avoided since I know several people named Richard Cranium.

My brother and I would sometimes go exploring on the neighboring properties when we were kids (without permission- neighbors didn't live in the area). Never hunting though. We even rummaged through a 50 year old trash pile and dug out a few milk bottles and stoneware crocks and sold them to an antique shop. We didn't leave a mess behind (no one could tell that we were ever there). Our parents knew about it but my dad grew up there (family farm) so maybe he figured that everyone wandered/explored when they were kids.

Looking back, I can say that it wasn't right, and if I had kids I wouldn't let them do it.
