I recently had to engage my differential lock and noticed that it stayed engaged. I referred to the manual and took the steps necessary to disengage it but I now cannot engage the differential lock when needed because the foot lever now appears to be loose. Is there some sort of linkage that can could somehow get knocked out of whack?

Thanks in advance

Are you sure it disengaged as it sounds like your lock may not be as yet? One way to be sure is to jack the rear up , place stands under rear axle and see if both tires are still turning. If they are, it did not fully disengage. If they are not but you cannot apply the lock, then something internally or externally may have let go. If the alternate breaking did not work , look underneath the tractor and where the brake linkage disappears into the tranny housing, lubricate the snot out of it with a WD-40 or similar product. Wait a few minutes to seep in then try the alternate brake tactic again. I had the same problem but after I drowned the area with Liquid wrench, it never got stuck again.

Arrow,

Thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure that the lock has disengaged as I have recently gotten hung up while dragging the box blade and only the high side that could slip would spin. I am hoping that it is just a combination of linkages and frozen actuators. Seeing as how we just got a week full of turd floaters and my property is too wet to do anything, it might be a good time to saturate everything like you suggested.

I have to agree - I have a 3616 and haven't had any issues - I use fluid film on all linkages and suspect you need to perform preventive maintenance

I wouldn't bother messing with attaching a spring in order to fully retract the pedal, unless it bothers you. The differential lock pedal on my 2615 which is built on a similar platform, suffers from erectile dysfunction. However, even though it is near the bottom of travel when in the released position, it is still disengaged. The fact is doesn't return fully to the top of the slot is likely a lack of lubrication at the pivot point.

But, if your tractor has those EDS blues, by all means, put a spring in his step. It is a male, isn't it? If not, there is now a pink pill for the ladies.
