Hello all, I'm in need of some help with my air compressor I got for free. The guy I got it from said a capacitor went bad so he took them off and was going to get them tested and buy a replacement. Then something came up and he let it slide to the back burner as we know it can happen. Anyway during this time his father in law gave him his compressor so he did'nt need this one anymore and didnt want to waste anything on it. Ok now to my problem, it is a Black Max 60 gallon compressor and he gave me the two capacitors he had taken off. I had them tested and one was bad so I got a replacement. My problem is, I'm not sure which one goes where? The motor has a space for a run and start capacitor, one has 2 wires(black, red) and one has 3 wires (black, blue, white) to attach to the capacitors. Not sure which goes where and also not sure how to connect the wires to the capacitors. One of the capacitors is a 15uF and one is 145-174 MFD. Would greatly appreciate any help you could give me on this. Thanks in advance..

The high mfd is the start, the lower is the run. If you have a motor shop near you take it by there and they could likely tell you. If you are proficient with a meter you can sort them out but I recommend taking it by a small motor shop. have you tested the motor? Might not be a bad idea if your at the motor shop. I just had a single phase 2hp totally rebuilt(rewound even) for $94.

Big ditto on that. I took my motor to local shop, they charged me $20 to diagnose capacitor that was toasted, then they tested the motor for me with cap they had in stock but was wrong form factor. He told me what to order from Graingers, I think it cost another $5 and I knew how to put it in because he showed me.
