Well, the Dozer guy finally arrived to start the hard work on clearing my little chunk of land. I've been trying to get someone here for almost 4 months. I was really looking forward to watching the work get done, and since I'm semi-retired, should have plenty of time. WRONG!! The day before the guy shows up, one of my store managers walked out without notice. SO, I get to go back to work for the next 2 to 3 months while I train a new manager. Been away from home about 14hrs a day and have got to watch all of about 20 minutes of the work being done. Oh well, at least it's getting done. I managed to post what few pictures I was able to take and a couple of short mpegs on my web site here if anyone would like to take a look.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have the happiest of New Years.

What would be the going rate an hour for a dozer?
D8 Cat runs about $110.oo per hour, and $100.oo for moving in.
From mid September until the ground freeze for good there a long waiting list.

Hoss,

What kind of transmission is in that dozer? He seems to be able to go from forward to reverse and back to forward very fast. It looks like some kind of hydro... It has been a loooooooooong time since I have sat in the operator's seat of a dozer and it had an old gear tranny. I know I couldn't change directions that fast!!

Thomas,
Don't really know about the hourly rate. One of the contractors who came out to bid it talked about $85.00 per hour for his D7 or $65.00 per hour for the smaller unit.(didn't actually say what it was) With all the contractors I contacted though, I wasn't really interested in the hour rate, I wanted a "bid" price for the job.

Billboe,
I know squat about bulldozers. He was telling me that he had just finished rebuilding the engine and transmission on that unit and while he was talking he referred to the transmission as "automatic". In what little bit I've got to watch, it appears to be some sort of shuttle shift.

Mighty cool sig! Did you create it? If so, what software did you use?

Howdy Mike,
Nope, not my creation. Don't have that kind of talent. When I was working on my web site, I subscribed to an online service called "Animation Factory" and it happens that they had 4 of those in various configurations. I switch them around every now and then.

Yeah, a shuttle shift would make sense for a dozer...
