Buying Advice pros and cons of the 4600 JD 4wd

Looking for info. about the JD 4600 4wd.
the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am looking to buy
one with a loader, and brush cutter. I just moved onto a piece of prop. and need it to get it into shape. Thanks for any advice.

Best bet is to do a search on TBN. That's a 10 year old tractor (give or take a couple years).
Obviously, you're buying used.What kind of money are you looking at? I'd estimate the tractor, depending on condition and hours, should be in the 13000-16000 dollar area if bought from a private owner.

Rusty - 4600 is IMHO one bad hiney tractor - I can not tell from your post do you have one spotted or what?? so ...
eHydro is the ultimate tranny since you mention MFWD I'm thinking you also mean eHydro
Bro with that tractor and a 460 FEL you can make those acres look like anything you want!
since the 4600 is the early version of my baby I'd look for:
- does the cruise work?
- leakage around the front hubs and yoke - then ignore it:laughing:
- seat cushion (heck they are $310 from mommy Deere)
- How good do I look driving it - darn good I'll bet:laughing:

no really the design is quite nice and its easy to see the whole thing.

If in you have one spotted pull up the hood, remove the side covers and make the seller drop the price for every seep, ding or dirty filter etc. It should look pristine!

Can't think of any bad, my parents have had one for just a year or two. The picked it up from the JD dealer, it is an 01 with 4k hours. I know my dad has put about 500 on it.

Works very well for it's size, and the hp is nice.

We just got Dad a 2000 4600 for his 88th birthday last month. We paid 17.5 and it had a little over 1000 hours, the front quick attach loader, bucket, etc. It has the cab, heater, radio, etc. It is Dad's dream tractor.... BUT... he has noticed he needs more weight in the back. He is use to his old IH that has the back blade and added weight.. that tractor will pick up trees... this one will not. So, we are looking for a back blade and extra weight for it.

The front sticker is peeling off. The neighbor said the biggest complaint is the plastic on the front and top are delicate... easily break... the tabs on the side cover, dropping anything on it when it is cold will crack the plastic, etc.

I will tell you next spring how we faired.

I have a 4700, bought new as soon as they were introduced. Excellent machine. The FEL is the most valuable tool in the toolbox. It tends to show excessive wear on the masts-to-posts connection, which can be remedied by shims -- factory kit available.
