Tractor
Kubota M5660, Farmall C, JD 260 lawn tractor
Took delivery of my new M5660 the afternoon of 11/6/2020. Put 2.1 hours on it over the weekend. I'm pretty happy with my purchase and it will be used to do the chores that the old Farmall C had been doing and a few new jobs that the C couldn't do. I'm liking the hydraulic shuttle!

I bought the base tractor with the following options:

Front wheel assist

R1 tires

Engine block heater

ePTO

Arm rest kit for the seat

Right fender grab handle

LA 1154 loader with the following options:

72" heavy duty round back material bucket

48" Construction Attachments 4200lb pallet forks

Kubota Shockless Ride accumulator

Third function valve

Bucket level indicator

Grille guard

Implements:

Land Pride RCD 1884 rotary cutter with front chain guard and optional skid shoes

Precision Mfg 333D72 Dual lid root rake grapple

I have some family property (40 acres) with about 15 tillable, 5 pasture and the rest semi-scrubby woods. Will be using the grapple for brush and fencerow cleanup, manipulating& loading logs for cutting into lengths. Pasture, roadside, lane mowing, and hopefully in the future, some tillage.

I live on a 2 acre parcel and will trailer the tractor back and forth for work on the 40 acres...the rotary cutter will live at the 40 in a small lean-to shelter that I'm constructing from a ginormous pallet that I salvaged from work. I'll use the tractor and bucket for snow removal at home and various lifting, etc. chores around the house.

Just out of curiosity, what is "front wheel assist?"

Just out of curiosity, what is "front wheel assist?"

Grippy tires on the front that you can engage or disengage at will to provide additional tractive effort.

Front wheel assist tractors have smaller diameter front tires than the rear. The front tires on FWA tractors turn at a higher rate of speed by a certain percentage than the rears, that's why you can't put any size tires you want on the front because you can damage the drive train components.

Four wheel drive tractors have front tires that are the same diameter/size as the rear...just like your four wheel drive pickup truck or big articulated agricultural tractors.

However, in real life, people refer to front wheel assist types as "four wheel drive". It's just a technicality with some factuality mixed in with it.

HUH? LOL....... that's called 4 wheel drive, not 'grippy front tires"

4x4 Pickup trucks/cars need the same diameter tires front and back because the gearing is the same front and back. F/R gearing on tractors accommodates for different size tires.

Actually, mcfarmall's description is accurate. Although his terminology might be off a bit. As in "Grippy Tires". :)

In the tractor world 4wd refers to center pivot tractors that have both axles engaged and pulling all the time.

In the tractor world FWA refers to rigid framed tractors with a front drive axle. Front tires are smaller so they can be turned to change course. Generally the gearing generates somewhere around 5% faster ground speed in the front axle versus the rear. This is done so the tractor can change course without pushing the front tires resulting in a tighter turning radius while the front axle is engaged.

Congratulations on your new tractor. Major improvement in capabilities than your old equipment. Good choices in options and equipment.

May want improve your front grill for grapple work.

Let us know how you like the KSR feature. In process of trying to add that to an older tractor.

Enjoy!

As far as "grippy tires" I was breaking it down into the simplest of layman's terms. I figured if I had to explain FWA then grippy tires would suffice.
Also, always keep my signature disclaimer (shown below) in mind.
Anyway, here's a picture 20201107_120208.jpeg20201108_141022.jpeg
