I was preparing to do some cutting out in the woods when all of a sudden the entire blade assembly flew off. The blades were still attached to the housing but all that is under the cutter is the drive shaft. Power Trac closed at 5 PM so I will have to wait till Monday to contact them.

Does anyone know what I would need to have the housing reattached? Will I have to special order from Power Trac or will my local mechanic have the necessary parts to do the job? Thanks.

Since no one has answered I will in ignorance say a few words. I dropped this assembly on my 422 brush cutter (5 years old, but probably similar) in order to remove the remains of a broken blade bolt. (I now use an easy out, much better) I just had to take off some bolts to do it. I did need a neighbor to reconnect them, but not a big deal.

I am guessing that you had some bolts fall out. Can you tell, or is something broken. Maybe some rough edges? Take a picture if you can.

A couple of months ago I had a seal go bad and had to have the motor taken off and sent to Virginia and replaced. My thinking is the shop that reattached the motor and blade either didn't do it correctly. I really don't believe it will be a problem to reattach the blade hub but was wondering if special bolts were needed to fit it. Maybe hardened bolts?

Terry did tell me that if one of the hydraulic hoses wasn't attached properly and the PTO was turned on it would blow a seal every time though I didn't do that. Thanks.

I haven't take my brush cutter apart, but by the looks of it, i think that there is a big bolt that the blade assembly is attached to. It look to be a large nut that is slotted for a cotter pin. I imagine that the large bolt is attached to the motor with a couple set screws to hold it on the motor arbor.

If you just lost the nut, you can get a slotted one to replace it and be sure to put a cotter pin in to help keep the bolt from backing off. I don't know what you would torque the bolt to.

Some pictures would be great. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The assembly is held on the motor shaft with a taper lock. Loosen the three small bolts in the center, insert the key into the motor shaft, line the keyway on the taper lock and slide over the shaft, tighten the bolts in sequence until all are tight, this will lock the shaft to the stump jumper pan with tons of force. PT used this system for years to lock hubs on motors for wheels on 18 thru 25 hp machines.
