Hello, and welcome to TBN.
In answer to your question.
You can call Power Trac 1-800 the-yard and they will give you the name and phone number of any PT owners that are close to you and are willing to let you test drive their tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif They did this for me in Oklahoma... only problem was there was only one, and he was 200 miles from me. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have made several phone calls to scott at Power Trac requesting the names and contact numbers of PT 180 owners ANYWHERE in the US, so that I could get an honest opinion on these machines. Scotts ongoing response has been " I'll check my files and get back to you". I have come to the conclusion that Power Trac does not give out that Information.

Beechwood, I think what you're encountering is just the reflection that this is a small company (or a small part of a bigger company). There's no excuse for it to be sure but it's stuff like this that will inhibit the growth of the company in the long run if the behavior doesn't change. Of course, chances are the change will come about with price increases in the short term.

I would guess that there are probably way more 422s and 425s out there than 180s based on the discussion of the 4xx series in this forum. Maybe they're just not that interested in selling 180s?

I would suggest you send a PM to Trojan6. He recently bought a 180 and is just a short drive from you to central Texas. I know he can give you some insight and maybe he knows other 180 owners in your area

I'm still waiting to hear from PT about contacts for PT180 owners. Hope to hear from them soon. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I can't speak for PT as far as providing PT180 owners, but I can testify as to my own PT180.

Overall, I have been pleased with it. I have had a few minor problems that I have posted in detail about previously, but here is a short synapse:

In the heat of the summer, I found hydrolic oil overheated within a couple of hours of mowing. I plan to have an oil cooler added that should help. In the meantime, I have taken to bringing a water mister with me and spraying the hydrolic pump every few minutes. That helps, too.

I had a flat. That seems to be a risk of most PT models. The cause was a second air valve on the inside of the rim that got brushed off by grass clippings piled up. You can replace this with a plug.

Lastly, I would really like a minihoe! Someday, I'll probably upgrad machines.

The good:

4wd in a machine of this size is almost impossible to find anywhere else.

There are over 40 attachments available through PT. If you are so inclined, other brand attachments may be easily adapted to the machine.

I've been able to do all of the maintance myself, so far. I work in the healthcare field, so I am not exactly mechanically inclined.

The size and articulated steering make it very manuverable....

I'll be happy to answer any specific questions. In summary, I'm very happy with my machine.

I talked to PT, they told me the same thing they told you, they do not have any PT180's in your area. This machine has only been in production about a year, so population is not great at this time. As I told you privatly, this machine does a good job for it's size, but if you need a oil cooler or mimi-hoe, buy a bigger machine. Don't buy too small and strain it's guts out.

Hi Beachwood,

I don't live near you, but I just got a 422. I was looking at a 180 but my wife talked me out of it and suggested I get the larger 422 because of the hills around here. I've mowed for 4hours straight and haven't had any problems with power (at least not from the PT /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) . It's been pretty warm here lately, upper 80's, which is hot for around here. I work the 422 pretty hard partly because of the slopes. I think if it was flat around here that the 180 would have done alright but I don't really know what 4 fewer hp would be like.

I think you've mentioned that before once or twice! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (great advice, by the way).

The problem is these little beasts can do so much that we tend to keep pushing them until we find out the hard way just how much they can(or in some cases, cannot) take. One thing seems to be true about Power Trac owners... we're not shy about telling folks we broke something while seeing how much the machine could take. We seem to have a little fire in us, and an attitude that we buy these things to work and work hard. And we all know that we will have to fix them ourselves before we purchase. Are we nuts or what? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
