PT 1845 Test at Charlie\'s & 18xx/14xx Alternative
I got some seat time on an 1845 thanks to fellow Marylander Charlie Iliff, and was favorably impressed. Even if your slopes aren't 30+ degrees, the PT with tilt seat felt very comfortable mowing on 10-22 or so degree slopes. Having that extra margin is good, even if you don't go to the limit every day! But Charlie had some areas where that slope capability is put to use.
Since my PT test I've also had a demo on my farm of the 4-wheel steer, axle-oscillating Bobcat Toolcat 5600T. See my thread in the TBN Buying/Pricing/Comparison forum for my listing of advantages offered by the PT 1850 and the Toolcat: Bobcat Toolcat 5600 or Power Trac 1850 for 168ac?
Notable among Charlie's attachments and projects was the post pounder/driver and great fence in perfect alignment.
Charlie's farm was a great test since I also have large, multi-terrain acreage, and his brother Jay's jambalaya was outstanding. Even with Charlie's and this forum's great hospitality, I'm also considering an 18xx/14xx alternative in the Bobcat Toolcat. A factory cab w/HVAC, passenger seat and rental attachments avail. at Bobcat dealers and rental stores are hard to ignore.
