Look at the shot of the engine compartment. A few things jump out:
1. forward hinge on cover gives you better walk around access for repairs.
2. gas tank in the lid gets it out of the way
3. muffler dumps exhaust out right on top of the hydraulic pump and hydraulic filter. Bet the hydraulic system runs hot in that tractor.

In my brand new PT1460, the hydraulic filter is scary close to the muffler. It runs hot as well. Some things change, and some stay the same.....
I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.
