PT 422 or NH TC-18

More info on the two 422's that we opperate: The older one is about 7 years old. It has been used hard by many of our crews. The torn seat that you see in the photo comes from the time it was on a trailer that slid into a ditch on the way back from a job. The truck and trailer were fine. The fence that they went through required major repair. The PT's seat took the worst of it when the fence wire scraped along it as it slid into my new friend's yard. The new PT is only two years old. That is the one that I have posted data about before relating it's starting problems. After having new coils installed the thing starts great, even down close to zero degrees! What a difference! Also notice that the one thing that we did right away was to add a two way detent valve on the loader arm of the machines to allow us to run the augers in both directions. We also use a PT brush mower (works real well), forks, buckets, and have built a large wheel barrow attachment for moving dirt on job sites. Our next addition will be to put a rack on the back of the machines to allow us to haul sackrete bags on the back end while carrying something else in the bucket.

my 422 will climb a 2 to 1 slope but it will not cut the grass and climb it.shut the mower off and it will go up it with out any problem.i have a hard time understanding how you come up with your 35 degrees, how did you arive at this number?i use to use a gravely and it had trouble at 30 degrees, which is a 2 to 1 slope.i could cut sideways but it would slide down, spin going up.the 422 can go anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The 35 degree slope was told to me by the guy who surveyed my property when we were determining the building site of the house. We wanted the house just above the steep part of the hill we set it on. From my living room porch, the ground slopes off and drops about 30+ vertical feet, at the midpoint of that slope, there is a very steep spot this is 35 degrees for about 10 feet. It is very difficult to walk down or climb up and when climbing it with a tractor you need a running start, wheel weights, chains and completly dry conditions. It is also the most convient way to get from the house down to the pool, garden, field, playhouse, etc. We have other ways down, but none are as convenient, and as there are thick woods filled with thorn bushes and hawthorn trees on the hillside, we pretty much limit our walking/climbing and mowing to the areas that were cleared by bulldozers and other equipment. I have thought about bringing in several semi-loads of dirt to change the slope, but I would have a long haul with a small bucket to move a lot of dirt because I can't get a large truck anywhere near that slope (I did get an 10 wheel dump truck down to the valley but need a semi-truck cab and some heavy chain to help pull it back up to the road . . . and the area along the road is the most gentle slope I have to get down to the valley area.
