PT-422 won't putters.

ok first let me give the engine specs as below.

Power-Trac PT-422

Engine: Subur Robin Engine 22.0 Eh65

Ok so our power-trac is having issues again, can anyone tell me what the correct gap for the engine valves are? i've got it set to .13 right now and it's like it starts up for a seconds then putters and dies and it does this when i'm moving the choke up and down, it's cold out...could we have it off the engine timing possibly? it worked yesterday for a few mins we got it down our hill and behind my dad's basement garage to get the snow blade on then it started puttering and now won't start up it just putters like it wants to start up.

See the "Service Data" section. Could it be a bad fuel pump? Bad gas is fairly common too. Good luck.

thank you that helps alot the fact that the max is .13 and i've got it at .12 for the oil valves, tells me alot...could possibly be a fuel filter issue..and that makes alot of sense now..with everything that has been going on.

What temperature is it at your house? Are you keeping it in the garage?

I have seen similar problems when trying to start it when it is 20F out. Hard to get started... sputters... pours out dense smoke, backfires and quits. Until the battery is drained from trying to crank it.

Not a valve adjustment issue. It is just that the engine has a hard time starting when trying to churn hydraulic oil that is too thick at a low temperature. Unfortunately, there is no clutch between the engine and the hydraulic pumps.

Put a heater blowing into the engine compartment and underneath it from behind, put a tarp partially over the engine compartment (don't start a fire, though), heat it up and try again. I have a 5600W 240V space heater that does the trick.

Get one of the 250W silicone contact heaters being discussed in another thread, and glue it to the hydraulic tank inside the engine compartment. That should help quite a bit.

Or do what I did, and move out to the west coast where you don't have to worry about 20F quite as much... I see where I used to live just picked up a couple of feet of snow... and it is 12F there....

On the flip side of the coin, I have a snow blade just going to waste now days....
