I have heard many say that the PT tractors are built like tanks and are very durable. Is that also true with their attachments?

I have been looking at Steiners & Ventracs and their attchments cost way more than power trac attachments. Do you get what you pay for, or are power trac attachments a real deal?

Thanks

Well, Dave... I'll tell you about mine. Here goes.

The small heavy duty bucket is extremely heavy duty. It was under $400 when I bought it. The teeth, while heavy duty, had blunt tips. I sharpened them per member's suggestions and that made all the difference.

The large light material bucket is not as stout as the small bucket, but plenty stout enough for all but the toughest tasks. It was $400 when I bought it. It is my most used implement.

The pallet forks could be a bit stronger. I've bent them twice, but to be fair, I was using them as pry bars, not as forks. They were only $250 when I bought them and are well worth the price.

The brush hog is a brute. I've abused it well beyond normal use. I recommend it for anyone with brush to control.

The 60" finish mower gives a great cut and has for the last four years. However, it rattles very loudly, requires grease every 8 hours and I've noticed the belt has some odd wear marks on it, like it was stuck against a spindle or something and got rubbed through about half way. I noticed this a couple years ago, and the thing is still running. Maybe if I replace the belt, the rattling will go away. It really does give a great cut.

The 60" power angle snow blade is the perfect tool for our driveway. It is very strong and does an excellent job. Piling snow 6' high is not a problem.

In general, all of our implements work as advertised and are very heavy duty for the price. I'd buy from Power Trac again in a hearbeat.

As for getting what you pay for, I've heard the Ventracs and Steiners are expensive, but have never heard of any owners complaining about not getting what they paid for. They appear to be strong, commercial grade machines.

With my 1845, I have the 72" rough-cut mower, large bucket, adjustable forks, lifting boom, post hole auger, tiller and post driver. All were very reasonably priced compared to similar attachments from other manufacturers, and all have proven extremely tough and reliable. They aren't pretty and shiny, and don't come with instruction manuals with 50 pages explaining how I can hurt myself with them. They do their jobs well. I have had no failure of any implement except a rubber hold-down for a belt cover on the mower, and a finish blade that tore off the mower when I got it into the ground (my lawn is less than smooth in places. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) I went back to hinged blades. The mower one time ground to a halt while trying to mulch a batch of old woven fence wire. Nicks on blades, but no deck, stump jumper or spindle damage. Then there was the concrete block hidden in tall grass, and an infinite array of sticks and chunks of wood. The stuff is tough.

I agree with Moss that the PT attachments are very robust. I had a Ventrac 4200 31hp tractor with a 60” deck, duals and slip scoop. The Ventrac is versatile and a great mower, but the PT is a heavier duty tractor and more versatile. When I sold my used 4200, for the money I received for it, I bought my 425, 60” deck, large bucket, 4 in 1 bucket, pallet forks, snow plow, mini hoe, potato digger, stump grinder, extra set of bar tires and wheels and an extra adapter plate. And I was around $100 in the green after all was said and done!

The Ventrac & Steiner tractors are good stuff, but I would never go back. I’m very happy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a 422 with a 48" mower deck and it is made out of 1/4" steel very heavy duty in my book. I also have the mini hoe and have had the back of the tractor off of the ground trying to dig this good Ohio clay.

I know at least some of the Steiners do not come with your lifting arms on the base tractor, you are purchasing them with your attachment that's why you'll see a Steiner bucket for a few thousand $'s while a PT bucket costs only a few hundred $'s. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also keep in mind Bill, that the Steiner only has a 200# operating capacity on its loader! That is the #1 reason why I will not buy a Steiner. The Ventrac loader is rated for 500# - much more acceptable for chores and clean ups.

My delivery charge for a PT 425 + attachments was over $1,100 and only delivered to a shipping depot. Delivery to my home or farm would be more.

Do they ship out multiple shipments if everything is not in stock at the same time?
