I parked my PT180 after use today and when I returned to it noticed a puddle of oil under it. My investigation showed a leak coming from the PTO Valve Assembly. I got out my book and as far as I can tell, it is coming from a gasket between the "-8 Jic x -8 O-Ring x 90 Deg. Adpt." and the PTO Valve Body. In other words, where the oil goes into the PTO valve. The black gasket looks torn or blown and with the engine on, slowly "drools" out oil. With the engine on, I activated the PTO. It shoots out oil until I complete the turn of the handle, at which time it returns to its drool. It does the same when I deactivate the PTO.

So, I am thinking that this will be a relatively simple repair. Am I being naive? Just find a rubber gasket of appropriate size from hardware store or autoparts store, remove hardware, replace gasket and hardware. Will there be a lot of oil coming out when I dissassemble?

Your reasoning sounds good regarding the gasket. I don't think you will lose much oil as there should be no pressure on the line.

That o-ring on the fitting is a certain thickness and diameter, and designed to get a good seal. I would go to a hyd supply and get the correct o-ring plus a couple of spares. Once you tighten the fitting fairly snug, tighten the locknut down, this will ensure a good seal. The o-ring thread is straight , not pipe thread.

/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I couldn't get the fitting out. The "L" shape has got me confused as to how it even got in, alongside the other fittings that are the same shape. I loosened up the locknut, which freed up the washer, under which is the o-ring. I got some liquid gasket in a tube stuff, "Copper" something or another, and after cleaning the area up as neat as I could, put the stuff in, and tightened it all back up. I thought it would suffice, but begining to think that this was a halfa$$ job. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I left it sit to dry. Don't know yet if it works.

If there are several hoses connected to the block assembly, you will have to figure out the installed order until you get to the one you are changing. It has to come all the way out to get the o-ring back on. As I mentioned in my other post, go to a hyd shop with the fitting, and they will give you the correct o-ring. Then put things back in order. The locknut and o-ring is what seals the fitting.
